The Redbirds defeated the 51s, 8-3, in the opener of the four-game series and game four of the seven-game homestand (2-2 record) before a FIREWORKS night crowd of 3,711 at Cashman Field.
The defending PCL champion Redbirds have the best record in the 16-team PCL with a 67-38 mark (.638). The Redbirds built a 5-0 lead after 2 ½ innings and left fielder Tyler O’Neill was 2-for-3, two walks, two-run homer (PCL leading 26th).
Las Vegas left-hander P.J. Conlon suffered the loss. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 7 hits, 7 runs, walked 4 and struck out 2 on 96 pitches (58 strikes).
51s left fielder Dominic Smith was 2-for-3, walk, SF, RBI.
Memphis right-hander Jake Woodford recorded the victory. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 run, walked 4 and struck out 2 on 104 pitches (62 strikes).
