Tom Brennan - BROOKLYN CYCLONES TEAM STATS

Tom Brennan - BROOKLYN CYCLONES TEAM STATS

The Cyclones have to hit in a challenging park.

Ike Davis, as a rookie there, was unable to hit a homer.

It is distinctly pitcher-friendly.

The last two years, the Cyclones hit very poorly. And lost a lot.

This year, the team happily is playing much more competitive baseball, sitting at 18-15 after 33 games.

How do they rank, pitching-wise and hitting-wise in this 14 team league?

Very well.

HITTING:

Avg:  3rd at .254 (league leader .257)

OBP: 4th at .332 (league leader .334)

Doubles: 3rd at 55 (league leader 61)

Triples: 4th with 10 (league leader 17)

HRs: 8th at 12 (league leader 21)

Runs: 6th at 150 (4.55 runs per game); (league leader 166)

PITCHING:

ERA: 6th at 3.46 (league leader at 2.33); 133 runs allowed (112 earned)

Shutouts: 2nd at 5 (league leader at 7)

WHIP: 3rd at 1.23 (league leader at 1.07)

Ks: 3rd at 302 (league leader at 329)

So, nearly half way through the season (already?), the Cyclones are doing quite well.

Next articles to cover Kingsport and the GCL Mets.

I am excited about defensive catching whiz Nick Meyer here.

Hitting .306 in 64 PA's, but with just 4 Ks. How nice to have a 1:16 K rate starting your pro career.

Tom -

It's funny.

The Mets used to be very protective of this team and the Sand Gnats would lose many of their prospects to the team that Jeff used to call 'his own'.

Not that way anymore.

St. Lucie robs this team as soon as someone shows promise.
