PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 12, 2018) – The Charlotte Stone Crabs swept a doubleheader vs. the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Stone Crabs won game 1, 6-0. They won the second game 4-0. Charlotte got complete-game three-hit shutouts from both of its starters.
In game 1, Riley O’Brien cruised to the win. In seven innings he allowed three singles and two walks while striking out five.
The Stone Crabs scored five of their runs in the fourth inning. Jermaine Palacios started the scoring with a RBI double. Rene Pinto, Kevin Padlo and Josh Lowe hit run-scoring singles in the frame.
The damage was done against Mets starter David Peterson, who gave up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits over 5.1 innings.
Luis Carpio, Ali Sanchez and Anthony Dimino hit singles for the Mets in the game.
In game 2, it was Willy Ortiz who went the distance. He kept the Mets to three singles and three walks in his seven innings. He struck out six and threw 100 pitches.
Jesus Sanchez ripped a two-out RBI single in the first inning to put the Crabs up 1-0. Jake Fraley added a RBI single in the fourth.
A sac fly from Lowe and a RBI hit from Robbie Tenerowicz in the fifth inning completed the scoring for Charlotte.
Mets starter Michael Gibbons gave up four runs and eight hits over five innings.
Gene Cone, Wuilmer Becerra and J.J. Franco each collected a single in the second game.
The Mets have been swept in their last six doubleheaders.
