August 20th Transactions and Kudos: Brandon Nimmo, Jed Lowrie, Shervyen Newton

Mets RP Robert Gsellman diagnosed with a partial lat tear and is done for the season.

The Mets call up OF Rajai Davis.

The Mets option Walker Lockett to AAA-Syracuse.

The Mets DFA RP Brooks Pounder.

      Kudos –

AAA-Syracuse – CF Brandon Nimmo: 2-3, RBI

The key here is he is now past the DH stage and looks to be around a week away from joining the Mets.

AA-Binghamton – SS Andres Gimenez: 3-5, R, 8th HR, 2-RBI
      BA up to .240

A+ St. Lucie – DH Jed Lowrie: 1-4, RBI

HE LIVES!!!

Rehab wise, not as far along as Nimmo, but it looks like we will get both of these guys back for the September push.

A-Columbia – 3B Shervyen Newton: 3-4, 2-R, 9th HR, 4-RBI

But only a .213-BA and 2 critical errors in this loss
He’s barely holding on to his blue chip

Rookie – Kingsport – SP Jordany Ventura: 4-IP, ER, 5-K, 2.25

             GCL – RP Zach Hammer: 3-IP, 0-R, 2-K

            DSL-1 – RP Jose Valerio: 3-IP, 0-R, 5-K, SV-7

He’s 19. He’s pitching to a 1.13-ERA in the last 10 games. Hmm.

            DSL-2 – CF Dyron Campos: 2-5, .299

We write a lot about Campos on these kudo posts simply because this team just doesn’t have much pitching or meat in their lineups.

So the return of Brandon Nimmo and Jed Lowrie should spell the overdue end for Aaron Altherr and one of Ruben Tejada and Luis Guillorme. Rajai Davis could be the one to go but at least he can run. I'm not sure what blackmail photos Altherr has of BVW or the Wilpons to justify his roster spot.

Great for Rajai, another victim of 2019's 25 man roster rule. In years past, he would have been some team's 5th OF all season.

Lowrie and Nimmo - now THOSE would be two nice adds for the stretch drive.

Valerio pitching well in DSL - you never know when DSL success will translate into future stateside success - I remember Vicente Lupo destroying the DSL one year, then always fanned a ton once promoted stateside. Let's hope Valerio is one of the success stories.

I sure hope Gimenez stays hot - he was hitting .230 just a week ago, which isn't top prospect caliber output. Last year at this time, I thought he might be making his debut in Queens by Sept 2019. Now it looks more like Sept 2020.
