Tom Brennan -SPOTLIGHT ON METS MINORS OUTFIELDER WAGNER LAGRANGE

PC - Ed Delany

Wagner Lagrange is a 23 year old 5'11" 190 righty hitter who has hit well, but with little power, in the minors prior to 2018.

Mack has long touted Lagrange.

I, on the other hand, haven’t, due to the lack of evidence of power for an outfielder.  As in just 6 dingers in his first 225 games through 2018. Meh!

And only a few steals to his credit.  Meh!

Let's take a look at his production:

In 2015, he hit .347 in DSL play. Nice.  In 2017 in rookie ball, he hit .330. Nice.  In 2016 (.231) and 2018 (.282), not as good.

He clearly seems to like odd-numbered years.

He started out 2019, another odd-numbered year, hitting pretty well for the Columbia Fireflies, a major achievement on a team that, excluding him, was not hitting much above .200 by Memorial Day.

He has a decent June, too. Nothing notable...decent.

In July, though, he immediately hit the ON SWITCH.

Until his promotion to High A St Lucie in late July, Wagner hit a robust .339/.382/.576 in his last 15 games for Columbia in July.

Wow.

Yeah, but lots of guys in recent years have struggled after we that made d season promo to High A.

Not Wagner, though.

He has hit .393/.426/.571 with 11 RBIs and just 5 strikeouts in his first 14 games for "the Lucites".

Wow.

.302/.342/.452 this season and trending UP.

And .302/.355/.404 career.  Nice.

Trending up in 2019, as in .365 in his last 29 games.

Crazy to say, but hitting like that gives me a little "Cleon Jones" feel.

Maybe Wags WILL hit enough to eventually be a 3rd or 4th major league outfielder.

Defensively, he appears to be very solid - in 254 career games in the outfield, he has just 8 errors (including his time in the error-happy DSL) and a fine 29 assists. This year, 2 assists and ZERO errors.  Very nice indeed.

Wagner Lagrange - one of the Mets' minors hottest hitters right now, making him one to watch.

Wagner LaGrange love the name now hopefully we'll love his game. Can he play in our outfield like now? Kinda kidding but not really as Lagares and Altherr are awful reminding me of 2015 with Campbell and Mayberry in the lineup. Brodie it's time to do some magic and find us a capable outfielder as almost anyone is an upgrade over those 2. I know Taijeron plays the outfield so any thoughts guys? Also has Davis been impressive wow what a find and now we just have to compliment him and the team are you listening BVW?

Hopefully, he can hit like Leon Wagner: Wagner, over the course of his 12-season MLB career, hit .272, with 211 home runs, and 669 RBI, in 1352 games.

Taijeron is hitting HRs but fanning a boatload.

One time Yankeee and Met Elliott Maddox might be a better comp -- a man who arguable once had the lightest .303 batting average ever recorded when in 1974 he hit 3 HRs, 45 RBIs and 6 SBs to go with that impressive average.

I am different than many of you.

If you can hit .300+ you can play on my team regardless of power.
