Mack – Transactions: Joe Panik, Rene Rivera, Jordan Humphreys

Friday, August 9th

The New York Mets signed 2B Joe Panik.

I represent the leader of the ‘can’t hurt’ school here.
Sure, the Mets have plenty of infielders that can hit .210… and guys like Luis Guillorme offer ++ utility defense, but Panik is a 28/yr. old homeboy that is a former all-star, not only because of his Gold Glove, but also his bat. He’s now going to play pennant race baseball for his home town team and he can get to his apartment without homeless relieving themselves outside the doorway.

Panik, Brach, Stroman… bring on those local boys.

AAA-Syracuse RP, Ryan O’Rourke, released after clearing waivers.

Mets SR, Walker Lockett, sent to AAA-Syracuse

      Kudos –

AAA-Syracuse – C Rene Rivera: 2-4, R, 23rd HR, 2-RBI
It’s a shame that certain Mets starters are so loyal to Tomas Nido. Rivera has proven this season that he deserves another shot in the bigs.

            AA-Binghamton – SP David Peterson: 5-IP, 0-R, 3-K
Another baby steps pointed up. Last two games: one earned run in 8.1-ER; however, gave up 4-ER in the start before that. ERA now 4.14, but it is 4.22 in the last 10 games.
I don’t know about this guy…

            A+ St. Lucie – RP Darwin Ramos: 1.1-IP, 0-ER, 0.56
18 appearances. 0.56-ERA. Move this blue chip up.

A-Columbia – SS Ronnie Mauricio: 3-5, R, 4th HR, 4-RBI, .288
      This from an 18-year old.

Low-A Brooklyn – SP Nathan Jones: 2-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 0.00
3rd game… 5-IP… 0.00… great start for this 5th round pick in the last draft.

Rookie-Kingsport – 3B Brett Baty: 2-4, R, 4th HR, 2-RBI
Baty is coming around, power wise.

            GCL – SP Jordan Humphreys: 1.0-IP, 0-R, K

The only reason The Hump isn’t a red prospect anymore is because of the TJS surgery that he is currently rehabbing from.

Jordan was flying high in 2017, after posting a 142-ERA in 11-starts for A-Columbia, He went on to two starts in St. Lucie, developed problems, and had surgery.

The entire year of 2018 was lost.

He was signed out of high school and is is 23-years old now. His career stats are 34-G, 27-ST, 13-7, 2.61, 1.03

Let’s keep our fingers crossed on this guy. He could easily end this season back in Lucy, where he could still be monitored by the minor league franchise additional pitching coaches whose job is 100% to manage the re-healing of guys like this.

            DSL-1 – RP Edward Sosa:  2-IP, 0-R, K

            DSL-2 – CF Dyron Campos: 2-4, .300

Get Humphreys innings up in the Florida Instructional League and back on track for a normal season in 2020.

Kelenic went thru a similar drought to Baty's last year, then took off. Baty seems to be fanning a lot less - my guess is he is ready to take off, too.

Rivera - I thought he caught well for the Mets in 2016 - if I were a pitcher, I'd prefer his solid catching a live bat to Nido's non-existent hitting.

I agree Mack lets not "panic" over Panik just let him play as a low cost addition. How about a BIG WOW for our boys last night ....dam what a game. It's games like last night that we all live for so lets all take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. Also a big "way to go" to J.D. as he's done a great job for us and another example of what a wild and strange trip a baseball season is as you just never know and I'm certainly one of the ones to blame as I had know idea we'd be in the position were in this season but I'm loving it. I was there last night. The full house atmosphere was ELECTRIC! Like a plsyoff game.

As for RR, yes, he deserves another shot, bit considering how little he'd play here IMO he's more valuable helping the young pitchers upstate.
