HOW DOES THIS MINOR LEAGUE INFIELDER SOUND TO YOU?

There is a AAA minor league infielder who may be available to the Mets in the right deal.

Would you add this guy to the Mets??   Would you???

Here's what you need to know:

Projecting over a full 162 games, this guy would have 46 doubles, 14 HRs, 117 runs scored, 88 RBIs and a .351/.426/.508 split.

Pretty good.  More than pretty good.

OK, not as good as major league batting leader Jeff McNeil's 2018 minor league splits: .342/.411/.617.

But pretty close.

So with Cano gone, what do you think?

His name?  You want everything?

You didn't guess already?

RUBEN TEJADA.

By the way, the right deal to acquire Tejada is simple:

FIND A PHONE...

CALL HIM UP!

But does he look pudgy? Maybe Dom Smith can get him diet and cpap. Seriously, we should try him out.

I think he went to Dom's C Pappy and got a C Pap from C Pappy himself - Ruben looks to be trim and fit. he probably stopped eating reuben sandwiches.

In a little slump lately

It's not a slump, it's regression to the mean.

I've complained about this before, but the Mets still only have 15 position players on the 40-man roster. Three of them are on the 10-day IL, including Brandon Nimmo, who has been out of action for over two months now and belongs on the 60-day IL. As a result, every single position player the Mets have on the 40-man roster is in Queens right now, which is just an unconscionably stupid way of constructing things.

Even if I believed Tejada wasn't burnt toast - and I do - the Mets still have to designate for assignment one of *eleven* pitchers on the 40-man roster that aren't in the major leagues. I cannot believe they haven't released five or six of those guys at this point, if for no other reason than to have the flexibility to pick up players on the waiver wire (Joe Panik, anyone?)

Mack – if you want an Open Thread suggestion, here’s one!

The Mets currently have 11 pitchers on the 40-man roster who are either pitching in Syracuse or re-habbing from Tommy John surgery (Franklyn Kilome).

Daniel Zamora
Eric Hanhold
Drew Gagnon
Stephen Nogosek
Corey Oswalt
Tim Peterson
Brooks Pounders
Chris Flexen
Tyler Bashlor
Walker Lockett

How many of them would you designate for assignment immediately to make room for a position player? How many of them do you think would be claimed by another team before clearing waivers?

Good idea

Guillorme, who was also raking in Syracuse and is a lefty, which they sorely lack on the bench, was brought up yesterday. This made total sense until I watched his four clueless at bats. While I expect the same thing might happen with Tejada and they can really use a lefty bat, I wouldn't wait very long before giving him a chance to show that he can't do it. I'm not really a believer in sending a guy down after one bad performance, but if Guillorme hasn't busted out in a couple of more appearances send out for a Ruben. Also not sure how much longer they plan to keep Altherr around. The guy would need to get red hot for a month just to cross the Mendoza line.

The Mets would be better off with Panik than Tejada or Guillorme. Get him.

We're gunning for the playoffs - we need decent players on the 25 man, no exceptions.

We need at least one OF far better than Atherr and the clueless Lagares (hey, now that I have called him clueless, he will no doubt get hot - you can thank me for it later).

Hobie, I almost hate to mention the name Lowrie any more - what a joke. Where is that bum?

Good question on pitchers to release from 40 man - just looked at Flexen - last 10 AAA outings, 10.2 IP, TWENTY TWO HITS ALLOWED. Really? Loser. Well, he did just walk one - LOL.

Yeah, flexen, pounders, gagnon can go in that order.

That way we won't Gag-on the Flexing Pounding of hard hit baseballs. Sorry. Um.
