PETE ALONSO RANKED 5TH ON MLB NOW’S TOP 10 FIRST BASEMEN RIGHT NOW!
January 19, 2023 – New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was ranked fifth on MLB Now’s Top 10 First Basemen Right Now! last night. The two-time MLB All-Star Alonso, who ranked sixth on the best first basemen list last year, finished one spot ahead of two-time Gold Glove Award winner Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves and one spot behind the 2020 American League Most Valuable Player winner José Abreu of the Houston Astros. In addition to Alonso, teammate Brandon Nimmo ranked fourth on MLB Now’s Top 10 Center Fielders Right Now! last Thursday night, while Starling Marte ranked seventh on MLB Now’s Top 10 Right Fielders Right Now! last Wednesday night, and Edwin Díaz ranked first overall on MLB Now’s Top 10 Relief Pitchers Right Now! last Tuesday night.
On last night’s countdown, 2009 MLB All-Star and MLB Network analyst Carlos Peña said on Alonso, “This is one of those guys that shows up every single day, swinging the bat. Look at the OPS+ in that 2019 season [at 147], 53 home runs. However 2022 season, just right there with that monstrous rookie season and just because of the hitting environment in 2019, as you can see, the WRC+ is right up there.”

Should be #3 in this one
131 RBIs hitting in a pitcher's park (72 RBIs on the road) and he's not at least 3rd is nuts.
I think if home field advantage was normalized, Pete = Goldschmidt. Goldy had just 48 of his 115 RBIs on the road, only 2/3 of Alonso's road total, but had 8 more at home than Pete. Our park takes our great hitters down a notch.
Have to be concerned about our pitchers.How many more HRs will they give up? Does this mean more 4-5 inning starts and therefor more innings for the BP?
