Tom Brennan - Mets Prospects # 11 thru # 20

Tom Brennan - ALL 11 THRU 20 METS DUDES

Today? Prospects 11 though 20 in Metsville.

Well, I had such a nice article done…detailed…well-thought-out - then as I added a final edit, it all highlighted somehow, and I went to the bottom, hit the return key, and it all…disappeared. And then I compounded it by hitting the wrong arrow key and all was lost..could not retrieve it. How lovely.

No copy…so let me quickly re-create it. Won’t be as good. Oh, well.

BUT….First, that Correa dude:

Boy, he would have enhanced the Mets’ WS chances the next few seasons, but at such a high subsequent cost, with the Mets lured in by Lucifer’s tempting minion, a fella whose name is followed in cartoon lore by  the last name Badenov. “Get ye behind me, Satan”. Temptation finally resisted.

Beware the long contract.

The Post suggested the Mets consider Anthony Rendon, pick up the remaining 4 years, $140 million he is owed, and toss them a prospect…for a guy who, in his last two seasons, played just 105 games, 11 HR, 58 RBI, and kept every penny of that $35 million a year for two said seasons.

“Rendon had it Ruf, I tell ya, Ruf!”

Me? I’d take Rendon’s onerous contract if they’d include Show-Hey Ohtani…and we could give them Baty, Mauricio, and Vientos.

That’s MY offer.

NOW…ON TO MY RECONSTRUCTED PROSPECTS 11-20:

Matt Allan at # 11 - why would I have him in the top 10 when he has thrown just 10 pro innings since 2019? An average of 2.5 innings per season, workhorse Jake deGrom pointed out to me. Nolan Ryan pitched 10 or more innings in a single game 21 times in his career. I still prefer Neil Allen , Tim Allen, and Mel Allen until Matt proves me wrong.

# 12. Bryce Montes de Oca - Fangraphs has the big fireballer throwing in 44 games, 44 innings, nearly 60 Ks, 23 walks, and a 3.57 ERA for the Mets in 2023. You don’t agree? Talk to Bryce about it. Just 1 HR allowed in 85 pro innings. Which is (pause and contemplate) certainly remarkable.  He’s BIG & BAD. And sneers at Gophers.

#13 Mike Vasil - a very fine pitching season in 2022, 3.53 ERA, with 11 Ks per 9 then in Arizona, 3-0, 2.93, too. He might just make this Mets team late in 2023.

#14 Nick Morabito - drafted high in 2022, let’s see if the youngster deserves a 14th rank in this list when we get to 2023.  Purely basing this level on his early draft selection, as his 2 for 22, 14 K debut was nothing to write home about.

#15 Jose Butto - veteran minor leaguer who will get to play a bit for the Mets in 2023. Innings eater, has 450 minor league innings to date, just thought I’d mention that, Matt Allan. Butto feels like another Dillon Gee to me.

# 16 Wyatt Young.  I have written of the is scrappy guy who remarkably, in his first full pro season, got on base nearly 200 times in AA and AAA. Similarities to Luis Guillorme. Good defender. He was the Met organization’s top minors 2nd baseman in 2022. Mostly 2B, but a bunch of SS games and a few 3B games, with 18 total career errors. Compare to Brett Baty, who has 38 errors in 173 career minors games at 3B.

# 17. Grant Hartwig - undrafted in 2021, but that was clearly a mistake - like, maybe he should have been a 1st rounder.  His regular season performance said so.  Here's why. Entire 2022 regular season, 6-2, 1.75, 83 Ks in 57 IP, 13 saves.   DANG!!  He started a bit slow in 2022, but was brilliant thereafter, until he found AFL fall ball competition to be rough!  But there was highly significant Hartwigian accomplishment in 2022, may  there be more of the same in 2023. Queens, too, maybe?

# 18. Eric Orze - righty reliever struggled at times in his first full season in 2022, but had a high K rate, including in AAA.solid FB and splitter.  He will pitch in Queens by mid-2023.

#19. Junior Tilien - who hits 3 HRs in a game and 2 in another game at age 19? Well Junior Griffey probably did, and this Mets’ minors shortstop did too. Age 20 ought to be a hoot for Junior. He may well be a Whopper Junior in 2023….fast food for thought.

#20. Stanley Consuegra - good, athletic outfielder with a solid regular season in 2022, including a mid season promo to Brooklyn, who did not hit well later in Arizona.  I have this sneaking suspicion that folks will be chatting him up during 2023, as he hits a lot in 2023.

# 20a BONUS extra pick!  Joel Diaz - righty whom I am adding to my top 20 almost entirely on hype…time to show true performance in 2023.

Next up:
My favorite 5 who did not quite crack my top 20 - they wuz robbed!

Anyway, this article was not nearly as good as my meticulous first, accidentally deleted version.  Oh, well…

Guitar great Jeff Beck suddenly passed at age 78 due to bacterial meningitis. Sad news.

The Mets had a minor league pitcher who never got past AAA named Jeff Beck Wheeler, and currently have a 22nd round righty named Jace Beck who pitched solidly in his 2022 debt.

Tom
Love your work
This list tell me I really did not like the draft last year, Morabito seem like a what are we doing pick unless it was a save money pick . Just don’t understand that pick
Also seems we are anout 12 -14 deep
What happened to the international signing guy we made last year ?
Do you not have him ranked
Eddie

Eddie, Simon Juan is his name. He struggled to hit in the DSL, which kept him out of my top 25. Will he be stateside in 2023, or “left back” for success, then promo? We will see.

This top 20 list would be dynamite if we still had the subject of my 2nd article later today.

Yeah would have been dynamic of crow Armstrong was still here

Second 10 is watered down, without Crow in the top 10. With Crow, one top 10 guy (Ziegler) gets pushed into the 11-20. Keyshawn Askew would have been in my late teens if not traded. Also, Endy Rodriguez, traded by the Mets a few years ago, is 6th in Pirate prospects, so he'd also be in the 2nd 10, if not top 10, of the Mets. Trades can dilute.

That 3 team trade, where the Mets effectively traded Endy Rodriguez for Joey Lucchesi, is looking really bad. Endy had a BIG year in the minors last year.
