BRANDON NIMMO RANKED 4TH ON MLB NOW’S TOP 10 CENTER FIELDERS RIGHT NOW!

January 13, 2023 – New York Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo was ranked fourth on MLB Now’s Top 10 Center Fielders Right Now! last night. Nimmo, who was last ranked fifth on the best center fielders list in 2021, finished one spot ahead of the 2022 National League Rookie of the Year winner Michael Harris II of the Atlanta Braves and one spot behind the 2022 American League Rookie of the Year winner Julio Rodríguez of the Seattle Mariners. In addition to Nimmo, teammate Starling Marte ranked seventh on MLB Now’s Top 10 Right Fielders Right Now! on Wednesday night while Edwin Díaz ranked first overall on MLB Now’s Top 10 Relief Pitchers Right Now! on Tuesday night.

On last night’s countdown, 2017 World Series champion and MLB Network analyst Cameron Maybin said on Nimmo, “When he’s on the field, he’s special. When you talk about a guy with a 10 percent walk rate, 17 percent K rate, he gets on base, he walks, .800 OPS. So, the power is starting to surge and go up a little bit more as well. And last year, he played an outstanding center field. Great plays, he hustled, he respects the game. This is a guy you love to have in your clubhouse, guys love him. I’ve been in there with him, he’s fun to be around and he is a good center fielder. I don’t know why people don’t want to admit that, Brandon Nimmo can play a good center field.”

Hosted by MLB Network’s Brian Kenny alongside MLB Network analysts, each Top 10 Right Now! ranking considers player performance over the last three seasons, offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced Statcast data and traditional numbers, and expert analysis by the MLB Network research team.

Back around 2015, I wondered if Nimmo and Cheech were unidenrical twins. Turns out Nimmo far out-performed my expectations from back in 2015.

That is an impressive group, and to land at #4 is quite an accomplishment. If Nimmo can stay healthy through this contract, probably the only part of his game that is an issue, he has a chance at re-writing the Mets record book in multiple categories. He is a special player that has been able to correct weaknesses in his game throughout his career (batting vs LHP, CF defense).

Becoming an all-time Met for a kid from Wyoming whose high school didn't have a baseball team is just remarkable.

TP, true…and that right field move in ought to bank him 2-3 more HRs a season.

Makes me feel very good that the Mets re-signed Nimmo. I have always liked the fact that he improves year over year. Hope that continues.

I am not one to say because he plays for us he is the best
No way nimmo is 4th
He has help avg arm
He plays way to deep and his offense I believe should rank him closer to 10 than 4
