12-28-22 - 2023 MLB Draft – Top 50 High School Prospects

https://www.prospects1500.com/general/2023-mlb-draft-top-50-high-school-prospects/

1. Max Clark, OF, Franklin HS (IN) – The top prospect of the prep class for some time now, there is growing sentiment for Walker Jenkins, but I am not there just yet. Clark has not had the greatest of summers, but it is still easy to see why he is so highly thought of. He has elite athleticism that could see plus tools in speed, arm, and in the field, he is as projectable as it gets.

At the plate, he is a polished hitter with a plus hit tool and a line drive swing that sees the ball really jump. The home run stroke isn’t there yet, but there is no shortage of power in the bat. An unassuming body, he doesn’t look the part of a future star, but he is one.

5. Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS (Franklin, IN.)

Clark would be the first high school athlete on this list. So he's more of an unknown, but most scouts state that he's as professional of a hitter as you'll get. He's a terrific outfielder who should be able to make web gems in the center field.

Meanwhile, he's also solid for a high schooler and will continue to pack on muscle as he gets to the higher ranks.

2. Washington Nationals: Max Clark, OF, Franklin HS (IN)

Clark is a dynamic five-tool talent from the Indianapolis area who should stay in center field. Possessing elite speed and a plus hit tool, he has franchise=changing potential. The Nationals could take the big conference college starting pitcher but they go for upside here.

7. Cincinnati Reds: Max Clark, outfielder, Franklin High School (Indiana)

The Cincinnati Reds aren’t afraid to bet on upside and there are few players with more tantalizing potential in the 2023 MLB Draft than Max Clark. A 6-foot-1 outfield starring in Indiana, Clark showed more of his power in 2022 and that rounding into form would make him a five-tool player. Committed to Vanderbilt, a top-10 selection would almost certainly get him to sign.

5. Minnesota Twins: Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS (IN)

Clark wowed this season in Indiana. He’s currently committed to Vanderbilt, and it’s no wonder why. He has the best all-around toolset in the 2023 class. Raw power, plus arm, the bat speed is there and his exit velos get scouts excited for what he could become.

Pirates

Max Clark

OF

Franklin Community HS (IN)

Clark's tools, moxie, and relentless motor are more than alluring here, especially if Crews and/or Dollander price themselves out to a club that paid well under slot at 1:1 in 2021 (Henry Davis).

6. Oakland Athletics

Max Clark, Outfield, Franklin Community

The Athletics are a ways away from competing, but they may get a lot closer if they land Clark. A potential 5-tool, dynamic talent, Clark brings arguably the best hit tool on the prep ranks, with serious wheels and elite level instincts in centerfield.

Since the Pirates now how the first overall pick. Here is a guy to keep an in eye on at least for now. Max Clark

“One of the best pure HS hitters the draft has seen in recent memory”

7. Pittsburgh Pirates | Maxwell Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS (Ind.)

Clark is arguably the most famous high schooler on the list, remaining near the top of the class for the better part of two-plus years at this point. He’s a five-tool bat with athleticism, strength, and projection. Clark profiles as a center fielder with a sweet swing and an excellent hit/power tool combination. Clark runs and has been into the mid-90s on the mound; he does everything well and would add to an already promising farm system in Pittsburgh. -VC

I scraped HS data from everywhere I could. Synergy, TruMedia + PG. Got sample sizes of 80+ PAs for most. Here are guys that *really* stood out this summer:

Kendall George

Colt Emerson

Ethan Mendoza

Rafaelle Velazquez

Michael Perazza

Max Clark

Zion Rose

Ashton Larson

Casey Borba

Outfield: Maxwell Clark, Franklin Community HS (Franklin, Ind.)

Clark has been atop the national rankings for some time now, and the reason why is he does everything well and makes everything look effortless. It’s a true center field profile with plus speed and has shown a plus arm before. Clark takes long, confident strides to glide down balls with ease and has the look of a prospect who will be patrolling center field for years to come.

2023 MLB DRAFT - TOP 200 PROSPECTS -

4. Max Clark

Outfield, Franklin Community

Max Clark is one of the best pure high school hitters the draft has seen in recent memory. One area scout called him "The next Jarred Kelenic, with more physical upside." Clark has a fantastic feel for the strike zone and has a swing catered toward using the entire field. He's a pro hitter. Clark doesn't try to hit homers. He's a line drive machine. That said, he's really begun developing into plenty of game power and should run into 20+ homers at his peak.

Clark figures to stick in centerfield where his double-plus run times and fantastic routes should age beautifully. The floor here is pretty substantial as far as prep bats go. If there's one critique, scouts do question where the body can go from here. He's already incredibly strong and the physical projection portion of his profile may be lacking.

9-9-22 - 2023 OVERALL RANKINGS UPDATE

Max Clark.

The mere mention of the new #1 overall player in the 2023 class lights up the face of any scout, player, parent, or coach, and his presence on any diamond is sure to bring a massive crowd of onlookers and spectators. A massive social media following is glued to his every movement, and Clark’s cutting edge delivery in said space is sure to be the example that many future prospects follow.

But for all the hype, there is no gimmick.

A five-tool prospect with across-the-board abilities that are unmatched, Clark’s incessant pursuit of perfection might be his most awe inspiring attribute. No player brings as much talent to the diamond, but even more impressively, no player brings as much energy and exuberance. Max Clark is ALWAYS on.

There is no half-speed to his motor. He glides around the outfield gracefully, and is equally as dangerous in turning a routine ground ball to shortstop into a single as he is stretching a standup double into a triple. He is a throwback player who is defining the future of amateur baseball, and is unwilling to be type casted

2. Detroit Tigers

Max Clark, Outfield, Franklin Community

While Dollander seems to be the slam dunk here, Detroit is going through a rediscovery of exactly who and what they are in terms of talent evaluation and organizational philosophy. The rebuild hasn’t gone as they hoped, and they were burned leaning so hard on developing pitching. That’s not to say it’s the wrong approach, but we think it might be enough to push them in the direction of a super high-profile prep, or potentially a college bat like Florida outfielder Wyatt Langford or Ole Miss shortstop Jacob Gonzalez. In this scenario, we’ve got them grabbing Clark who projects to play a plus centerfield and hit for plenty of average.

1. Max Clark, OF, Franklin HS (Ind.)

While he hasn’t had the most productive summer at the bat, Clark remains the clear-cut top prep player in the country, one who has all five tools at his disposal. He’s now about to play for Team USA in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup that begins in Bradenton, Fla. on Friday.

Clark could easily be the first pick of the MLB Draft if the team drafting at the top wants to be patient.

4. Nationals: Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS (Franklin, Ind.)

The Vanderbilt recruit has the best all-around toolset in the class and can do everything well on the diamond. He didn’t put up huge numbers in PDP League play, but he showed tremendous bat speed, solid exit velos, good raw power, a plus arm and speed.

Great player for us in a trade after the draft.

I'm not sure anymore but the old rule was you couldn't trade a draft pick for a year
