Ah, Brett Baty. The guy we are "stuck" with. In the post-Carlos Correa era (20 days of pure torture). I was over it, I think everyone was. In any case, Carlos Correa will be a Minnesota Twin for at least the next 6 seasons. The Mets are “left” with Brett Baty.
Let's take a look at Brett Baty’s statistics and outlook from the minor leagues. Baty was drafted back in 2019 at just 19 years old. Baty’s scouting grades on MLB.com are in the upper echelon. With a 60 hit, power, and arm tool Baty is one of the best there is. He checks in at 6’3 and 210 pounds. He appears pretty thin and definitely has room to bulk a bit.
In terms of minor league production, Baty as flew through the minors. Within his first season he went through 3 affiliates. Even with the stoppage in 2020 where he was sent to the alternate site. He hit .292/382/743 with 12 homers across High A and double A in 2021. He tends to hit the ball on the ground a lot which is a major knock on him. He is big and ready to play so I expect him to work on that. He is only 23 at the moment and sky is the limit.
Baty projects between 20-30 home runs in 2023 if you project out the numbers fangraphs has over the length of a full season of play. If the Mets get even 20 home runs out of Baty this season that is a win to me. This team has lacked power and we should be excited to see Baty start to get his foothold in MLB.
I am going to project Baty to hit to a tune of .245/.340/.710 with a 108 wrc+ and 22 home runs. I am getting excited about our number 2 prospect, you should be too.

I am a big Baty fan but I hope he plays AAA in 2023.
He really.played very little there last year and was only called up because of injuries to both Escobar and Guillorme.
Plus he needs work defensively.
Let the combo b of Eduardo and Luis hold down the hot corner this season.
I disagree with Mack partially. I think Baty could benefit with at the most another few months of AAA. He should be ready by then. He could surprise us all by tearing up spring training and forcing his way onto the club.
Hopefully he has worked hard on the defense part of his game this winter to drop the high error rate, and added 10-15 pounds of muscle.
He is the 19th overall MLB prospect, and I just believe that by June 1, he will be the starting 3B vs. righties.
Alvarez? I want him on the opening day roster.
Baty is sometimes disparaged for his defense. I don't see that. In his time in AA, I saw him perform very well defensively. He has very good range and can go back on fly balls from his 3rd base position extremely well. Give him a shot!
Paul, good on all those points. But in 72 AAA games at 3B, he made 15 errors, and 38 in 173 minors career games at 3B. That is not good. He needs to cut that rate by 30-40%.

Yep, 1 yr, $6 million with some incentives. Perfect contract for a decent, Pillar-type player who pushes Ruf closer to the exit door.
