McNeil Ranked on "MLB Now's Top 10 Second Basemen Right Now!"

JEFF MCNEIL RANKED 2ND ON MLB NOW’S TOP 10 SECOND BASEMEN RIGHT NOW!

January 26, 2023 – New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil was ranked second on MLB Now’s Top 10 Second Basemen Right Now! last night. The two-time MLB All-Star McNeil, who ranked ninth on the best second basemen list last year, finished one spot ahead of 2022 Gold Glove Award winner Andrés Giménez of the Cleveland Guardians and one spot behind two-time World Series champion Jose Altuve of the New York Mets. In addition to McNeil, teammate Pete Alonso ranked fifth on MLB Now’s Top 10 First Basemen Right Now! last Wednesday night, while Brandon Nimmo ranked fourth on MLB Now’s Top 10 Center Fielders Right Now! on January 12, Starling Marte ranked seventh on MLB Now’s Top 10 Right Fielders Right Now! on January 11, and Edwin Díaz ranked first overall on MLB Now’s Top 10 Relief Pitchers Right Now! on January 10.

On last night’s countdown, former MLB general manager and MLB Network analyst Dan O’Dowd said on McNeil, “He took that approach during the start of the season, started getting hits all over the place. I think he got really comfortable in the box, then I think he started driving some balls middle in, but it started, to me, with a mental approach. I can make a pretty compelling argument: Jeff and Freddie Freeman are the two toughest outs in our game to get. And he’s not a guy I want to pitch to with a game on the line because I know he’s gonna barrel the ball up some way.”

Hosted by MLB Network’s Brian Kenny alongside MLB Network analysts, each Top 10 Right Now! ranking considers player performance over the last three seasons, offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced Statcast data and traditional numbers, and expert analysis by the MLB Network research team.

Pay Jeff now. Don’t be foolish. Just do it.

I agree Tom. He has been such a solid player both offensively and defensively. Don't wait until he is close to free agency - another year of batting over .300 and the price will go up!

Jeff is a beast and needs to be signed long term. I also see him reverting to 19' with 27 dingers and still hit .318 especially now with that RF fence moved in. How much more is he worth if he hits 30+ HR's? Sign him now!
