Blake Mitchell
C/RHP Sinton HS
1-5-23 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB
Blake Mitchell is the best two-way prep in the 2023 Draft. He can touch 97 on the mound, but his future is behind the plate. He has all the tools to become an All-Star backstop. But first, we talk about being a switch-hitting on the golf course and cats.
1-2-23 - Perfect Game California @California_PG
Continuing to look at the top of the 2023 class nationally, #7 prospect is Blake Mitchell, C out of Sinton HS (TX). Strong/physical 6'1" frame. Athletic defender w/ big arm. Big time bat speed from left side w/ power.

6. Blake Mitchell, C/RHP, Sinton HS (TX) – A real two-way prospect, on the mound Mitchell has a reliever look with a rising fastball up to 95 and a quality two plane slider. He has more upside as a catcher where he has a 2.05 pop time and plenty of athleticism behind the dish suggesting he could be an above average defender. Currently he goes the other way too much despite his hips clearing well and having real plus raw power to his pull side.

21. St. Louis Cardinals: Blake Mitchell, C/RHP, Stinton HS (TX)
Mitchell is what you picture when thinking of a classic high school star. He can do it all. He reminds me of a Bryce Harper when he was in high school. He has loud tools. On the mound, he hits low-90s with his fastball and shows a slider that has some life.
His main gig is as a left-hand hitting backstop who has raw power and a feel for driving the ball. It’s hard to say if he’ll stick behind the plate or on the mound, and there is even talk that he could become a future infielder.

32. New York Mets
Blake Mitchell, C, Sinton
The Mets pick falls from 22 down to 32 after exceeding the luxury tax threshold by more than $40 million. They luck out in this case regardless. Mitchell could go in the Top 15 picks, though high school catchers always seem to have a tendency to fall a handful of spots further than they should. This is a premium high school bat with serious juice and decorated athleticism and talent behind the plate. He’s one of the better high school bats we’ve seen in the last handful of years.

14. Boston Red Sox | Blake Mitchell, C/RHP, Sinton HS (Texas)
There is always a risk when it comes to prep catchers, but Mitchell looks to be the best prep prospect at the position in a while. Strong catch-and-throw ability and advanced actions behind the plate will allow Mitchell to handle the tough position at the pro ranks. An advanced approach stands out at the plate, where Mitchell works deep into counts and can hit for both power and average. -TH

Catcher: Blake Mitchell, Sinton HS (Sinton, Texas)
Mitchell has the best blend of defensive chops and arm strength on the catcher side of this year’s prep class. Mitchell shows very solid receiving and blocking skills with a 70-grade arm that has been into the mid-90s on the bump in the class. Mitchell isn’t only the best defensive catcher in the country, but might be the nation’s best two-way prospect as well.

23.
Blake Mitchell
Catcher, Sinton
Mitchell is a do-it-all player and the epitome of a high school star. On the mound, he's been up into the low 90s with a promising slider. When he's not pitching or behind the plate, he's shown quick, athletic actions at shortstop.
Some think he's got a home on the mound. Some believe he's a future power-hitting infielder. But his actions behind the plate have many believing he's a prototype backstop of the future. Mitchell, a left-handed hitting thumper, has significant raw power and feel for driving the baseball without selling out for the juice. He can get pull-happy, but has shown a willingness to use the left-center field gap when it's prioritized.
Behind the plate, Mitchell has an above average arm with upper-tier athleticism for the position. His receiving skills are impressive considering his age and how he's been deployed as a Swiss Army Knife in the past. It's an above average arm that many believe could eventually sit plus as he settles into the position. Prep catchers can be a tough demographic, but Mitchell has all the building blocks of a really significant prospect.

3. Blake Mitchell, C/RHP, Sinton HS (Texas)
Mitchell is an intriguing two-way player who is currently playing for Team USA. Scouts tend to prefer him behind the plate, where he has the chance to be an offensive force at a premium position. The plus arm that fires 95 mph fastballs from the mound works back there, too.

#1 Blake Mitchell - C/RHP - Sinton - LSU Commit
Our 2022 PBR Texas Player of the year retains his top stop in the class. After a great spring, leading Sinton to a state title, Mitchell carried his strong play through the summer and capped it off at the Area Code Games. Here is a write up from our VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt:
Mitchell, a Louisiana State recruit, did nothing to dissuade his strong first-round potential, including providing a marquee moment with a booming opposite field home run. The 6-foot, 195-pound backstop is an elite athlete behind the plate with loose hips and soft hands along with a plus-plus arm.
In the box, the left-handed hitter gains strength from a strong base with quick hands and strong forearms that provide impressive bat speed and power to all fields. Though the bat and glove are the push for Mitchell as a prospect, he is also one of the top pitchers in the class and worked 92-94 while showcasing a polished delivery along with what might be a plus changeup and feel for spin.

11. Rangers: Blake Mitchell, C, Sinton HS
Perfect Game - https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=386111 -
Blake Mitchell is a 2023 C/RHP/SS with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Sinton, TX who attends Sinton. Strong athletic build. 7.00 runner in the sixty. Very athletic behind the plate defensively, sets up low and flexible, comes out of his crouch very quickly, easy plus arm strength with a quick but unrushed release. Athletic enough to play shortstop when not behind the plate.
Left handed hitter, has a busy hand load, extended lifting swing with very good extension, power approach with big raw bat speed. Also pitched, works from a tall delivery with a deep arm action and high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 95 mph in a short outing, also threw a big breaking downer curveball. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Louisiana State.
