Minor Thoughts - Wagner, Traber, Ruckle, Eigsti

1. The GCL Mets were suspended at a 4-4 tie and will probably be completed tomorrow. OF Javier Rodriquez was 2-5 at the time of the suspension… game, that is… and will increase on his ‘last 10 games’ stats of: .293, 2-HR, 2-BB, 11-K, 2-2B, 2-ST. I’m not sure where he’ll end up this year, but I expect him to roam the Savannah outfield next season.

2. CL Billy Wagner was added to the St. Lucie active roster as a rehab player. He’ll be the first back, and I assume he will take over the 8th inning role. Get to less than 5 games out in the loss column for the wild card, and then, inch by inch… Friday night: 1.0-IP, 2-K, 0-ER.

3. I can’t believe who pitched against the Buffalo Bisons Friday night; Billy Traber. It seems like a hundred years ago that the Mets drafted him with the 16th overall pick (actually, it was the year 2000). There aren’t too many minor leaguers who have played there since before 9-11.
4. Binghamton’s Jake Ruckle had another tough outing: 4.1-IP, 6-ER, 8.26 for the season. No one has been a bigger supporter of Jake than I have been and it amazes me how one injury can turn a career. I hope the Mets look back and see what this kid has done, then shut him down, and find out what’s wrong with him before the Rule V draft. It’s the least they could do.

5. Jonathan Mayo/MLB has revised his top 50 prospect list and the only Met on it was SP Jennry Mejia, at 46th

6. I asked Mike Antonini how his last start went… “felt great... hope its a start of good things…”. Antonini hot a rough patch this year, but don’t be surprised he doesn’t end up strong this year. God knows the B-Mets could use some decent starting pitching.

7. Jacob Eigsti popped up on the Brooklyn starting lineup Saturday. This is Jake’s fourth team this year, after stints in Savannah St. Lucie, and Binghamton. Technically, this might count as a rehab assignment. Going in, he had a combined 140 at bats with a BA of .221. He’s also been around the block a couple of times since being drafted in 2006.
