Game #36• Saturday, May 15, 2010

LAST GAME: The B-Mets offensive struggles continued Friday
night as they were shutout for just the second time this season.
Three Trenton hurlers held Binghamton to one hit en
route to a 3-0 victory, sending the B-Mets to their fourth consecutive
loss. Binghamton’s only hit was an infield hit from
Mike Nickeas in the second inning off starter Lance Pendleton
Pendleton tossed six, strong innings with six strikeouts, but
got a no-decision. The same was true of Dylan Owen who gave
his strongest outing of the season, allowing just one hits while
striking out a season-best eight men. The Thunder rallied for
three runs in the seventh and were helped along by a Roy
Merritt error. Merritt was charged with all three runs, albeit
unearned, as well as the loss. The game-winning run came
across on a bases-loaded wild pitch. Marco Vechionacci put
the finishing touches on the inning with a two-out, two-run
single, which made it 3-0. The B-Mets drew seven walks as a
team, but couldn’t convert any of them.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brad Holt is due to make
his fifth start of the 2010 campaign. He is coming of his longest
start, a four-inning stint May 10 at Portland in which he
permitted just an unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Holt is 0-2 with a 9.72 ERA in 8.1 innings. Last season,
he made 11 starts for Binghamton with a 3-6 record and a
6.21 ERA in 58 innings. He is considered the No. 5 prospect
in the Mets system by Baseball America. Holt was drafted by
the Mets as a first round supplemental pick in 2008, going
33rd overall out of UNC-Wilmington.
RHP D.J. Mitchell will take the ball for the Thunder in his seventh
start. He earned the win in his last time out, May 9 versus
Bowie, when he worked six innings and allowed two runs
on five hits with a season-high six strikeouts. Went 12-7 with a
2.63 ERA in 25 appearances, 24 starts, in 2009 between
Charleston (Low-A) and Tampa (High-A). Drafted by New York
(AL) in the 10th round of the June 2008 draft out of Clemson.
