LAST GAME: The B-Mets rallied to within a pair of runs in the ninth yesterday before succumbing 6-4 to the Bowie Baysox. Reese Havens represented the tying run in the ninth, but Pedro Beato struck him out for his third save. Mike Antonini was charged with four earned runs over five innings to lose his second straight start. Bowie was led by Brandon Waring, who scored four of the team’s six runs, a sesaon-high for the third baseman. Caleb Joseph drove in four men, including two with a homer in the fourth off Antonini, his second of the season. For the B-Mets, Kirk Nieuwenhuis snapped out of an 0-14 slump with three hits in his final three plate appearances to up his average to .302. Binghamton pounded out 11 hits, seven of which came of starter Ryohei Tanaka. Tanaka tossed six, scoreless innings to break a personal, four-game losing streak. The righty struck out six in the victory. Edgar Ramirez hurled the final three innings in relief, and allowed a run.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eddie Kunz will start for the eighth time this year. He garnered a no-decision in his last start May 13 at Trenton after throwing five innings, in which he allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. Kunz is 3-2 with a 6.21 ERA over 33.1 innings this year. Last year, Kunz made 40 appearances for Buffalo (AAA) with a 4-5 mark and a 5.02 ERA in 61 innings. He functioned as the B-Mets closer in 2008 when he racked up 27 saves. The righty was taken by the Mets in the second round (42nd overall) in the 2007 draft.

RHP Tim Bascom will counter for the Baysox in his eighth start of the 2010 campaign. He dropped his last start after surrendering five runs, three earned on a season-high nine hits over 5.2 innings versus Erie May 13. On the year, Bascom is 2-2 with a 3.05 ERA in 41.1 innings. The righty split last season between Frederick (High-A) and Bowie appearing in 27 games, 25 starts. With the Baysox, he was 3-7 with a 4.30 ERA in
81.2 innings. Bascom was Baltimore’s fourth-round choice in 2007 out of the University of Central Florida.
