TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons face the Norfolk Tides in the third game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has won the first two games of the series, 5-3 and 4-0. The Bisons have now won four straight games and are 12-4 in the first 16 games at home this season. Norfolk is 6-12 on the road in 2010.
vs. THE TIDES: Dating back to last season, the Bisons have now won five of their last six games against Norfolk. Since 1998, Buffalo has an impressive .628 winning percentage against the Tides (59-35) -their best against any team. The Herd has lost just one season series to the Tides in 12 seasons (2008, 3-4).
WIN STREAK: The Bisons have matched their season-high with a four-game win streak. They also won four straight, April 29-May 2. The club has also matched a season-best at six games above the .500-mark (21-16). Bisons’ sluggers have nine home runs in the last four games, while the pitching staff has yielded just one earned run in the last three contests.
BEST IN BASEBALL: INF MIKE HESSMAN collected an RBI-single and his third home run in four games last night to up his RBI total to 41. The slugger has three more RBI than any other player in baseball. Trailing him are L.A. Dodgers’ OF ANDRE EITHER (38) and Single-A Lexington Legends IB, KODY HINZE (38). Hessman has 41RBI on 41 hits because he’s posted a .419 average and a .977 slugging percentage with runners in scoring position.
MORE HESS: INF MIKE HESSMAN enters today’s game with a 10-game hit streak (.389, 14-36). Along with RBI, he leads the IL in home runs (12), extra-base hits (25), total bases (90) and slugging percentage (.687). He’s also tied for second in doubles (13) and tied for third in runs scored (26).
LIVING RIGHT: LHP BOBBY LIVINGSTON has a 0.69ERA in two starts at home this season. In his last outing at Coca-Cola Field, the southpaw threw eight shutout innings and allowed just three hits in a 1-0 win over the Bats.
ROSTER MOVE: C JOSH THOLE is back with the Herd, having been optioned by New York last night. Thole did not appear in a game in his five-day stint with the Mets. C JEAN LUC BLAQUIERE was transferred to St. Lucie (A).
