TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons face the Norfolk Tides in the finale of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Despite yesterday’s loss, the Herd is ahead 2-1 in the series and can win the set with a victory tonight. After tonight’s contest, the Bisons will welcome the Knights into town for a four-game series with Charlotte. Buffalo is 12-5 at home this season while the Tides are 7-12 on the road in 2010.
vs. THE TIDES: Dating back to last season, the Bisons have now won five of their last seven games against Norfolk. Since 1998, Buffalo has an impressive .621 winning percentage against the Tides (59-36) -their best against any team. The Herd has lost just one season series to the Tides in 12 seasons (2008, 3-4).
SWEET HOME: The Bisons are 12-5 at Coca-Cola Field this season. The .705 winning pct. is the second best mark in the International League (Syracuse, .778). OF JESUS FELICIANO has hit .404 (19-47) in 15 home games while INF MIKE HESSMAN has seven homers and 24RBI in his 17 home games. Three of the pitching staff’s four complete games this year have come in Buffalo.
BEST IN BASEBALL: INF MIKE HESSMAN continues to lead all of baseball with his 41RBI. He’s three ahead of L.A. Dodgers’ OF ANDRE EITHER (38) and Single-A Lexington Legends’ INF KODY HINZE (38). Hessman also leads the IL in home runs (12), extra-base hits (25), total bases (90) and slugging pct. (.672). He’s also tied for second in doubles (13) and third in runs scored (27).
TOP HITTER: OF JESUS FELICIANO leads the International League with his .356 (37-104) batting average. He enters tonight’s game on a five-game hit streak over which he has averaged .421 (8-19) with two stolen bases and three runs scored. Last season, Feliciano led the IL with 154 hits.
HOMERING HERD: The Bisons have had at least one home run in each of their last five games. Over that span, the Herd has clubbed 10 longballs. Buffalo is tied for second in the IL with 37 homers on the season.
ROSTER MOVE: Just prior to yesterday’s game, the Mets announced that RHP KIKO CALERO has been released. Calero was 2-0 with a 10.59ERA in 10 relief appearances with the team (17.0IP, 24H, 20ER, 9BB, 16K).
METS UPDATE: The Mets (18-20) lost their fifth straight games yesterday in 10-8 defeat to the Marlins. Former Bisons LHP JON NIESE left the game in the third inning with an injury. OF JASON BAY had two hits and two runs scored for New York. The Mets are in Atlanta tonight for a 7:10 p.m. pitch against the Braves.
