Mets:
Bob
Klapisch -
Back to back sub-par performances from Johan Santana. Still wondering about cause and effect
from the 134 pitches in no-hitter
Ed Leyro
–
Between this year and last, Lucas
Duda has played in exactly 162 games, hitting 20 HR and driving in 90
runs
-okay, I’m a believer…
Michael
Baron -
52 percent of the Mets runs have come
with two outs.
RA Dickey last 5 game line: - 5-0, 0.23 ERA, 50 K's, 3 BB's
Buster
Olney - Mets should move on
about scorer's decision, in the same way that the Cards' players didn't
complain about botched call in Santana's no-no.
RP Mark Picca was release. 10-3-11 Interview:
Mack: Hey folks, we're talking to another of
Kingsport's fine relief arms this past season, the 41st round pick out of the
University of Texas-Arlington (lot's of plane noise)... LHP Mark Picca. Hey
Mark, are you home resting now?
Picca: Yes, I'm back home in Arlington resting up
and taking some classes at UTA to try and finish up my degree. Waiting to get
back into a workout routine
Mack: So, first thing
first... Who has the largest picture in the UTA trophy case... you or Gee?
Picca: Well,
Gee does of course. He's made it to the major leagues and had success
there. I'm sure if I make it to the Bigs I could give him a run for his money.
Mack: First of all, tell us what it was like
hearing your name on draft day and then pitching in your first pro game.
Picca: It was a great feeling hearing my name
called, because it was something I've been working on achieving for half of my
life. I was just happy to get an opportunity.
Pitching in my first pro game was surreal. I was a little nervous
because it was my first time throwing to batters in almost 2 months since
college; but after I got the first batter out it gave me the confidence to play
the game I've been playing all of my life.
Mack: Please explain what the main difference is
pitching to kids in school vs. pros in the system?
Picca: The biggest difference is talent level. Most of
the players have big league talent, which is why most of them were drafted or
signed, but the consistency and approach still aren't perfect in the lower
levels so there are still ways to take advantage of those inconsistencies, just
as with guys still in school.
Mack: Mark, you're a 6-2 lefty... and the only
thing better than that is a 6-3 lefty. Your 2011 went: 18-G, 24.1-IP, 23-K,
5-BB, 3.70. You've obviously earned a bump up to either Brooklyn or Savannah.
What are you doing in the off-season to prepare yourself for the next step?
Picca:
I've been working out with local trainers, lifting and conditioning to
get back into shape. I hope to get stronger and come back ready to go and ready
to earn a spot at a higher level.
Mack: Are you on the Nitro plan?
Picca: Yes, we all received a workout regiment from
Nitro and the Mets to follow during the offseason. He believes in the workout
and I like what it has in it, so that’s what I'm going to use this offseason.
Mack: Mark, thanks for the time spent.
Picca:
You’re welcome. Thank you.
Signed today by the
Class A Eugene Emeralds (OR) in the SD Padres system
AAA – Buffalo:
40th
professional start for Matt Harvey (18-7, 3.50, 203.0-
IP, 190-H, 220-K)
SP Matt Harvey came out with a killer curve, striking out
two in the 83-84 range, and a 95-FB. Struck out the side…
Ben Wagner- In-game interview, Wally Backman mentioned
specifically, Matt Harvey is using his change more tonight
A 3-run homer by C Ryan Lavarnway (stop laughing, David) smacked us all
in the face in the 6th inning.
Harvey was done after
7.0, 103-pitches. 10-Ks and only 2-BB. One bad pitch.
There really wasn’t
much else to crow about here. Justin Turner did
rehab at SS, and went 1-4. Matt den Dekker (.143)
went hitless and made his first AAA
error. The important news here was the superb command by Harvey.
AA-Binghamton:
Boy, I hate 10:30am
games. Extended camp kids are used to playing during this time, but Zack Wheeler isn’t anymore. It cost him a run I the
first while his hair was still drying from a wake-up shower… it seems that
Reading’s SP, Austin Hyatt, wasn’t awake either. 1B Eric
Campbell (.319) knocked in CF Juan Lagares (.268)
in the bottom of the first, followed by Dustin Martin’s
(.333) back-to-back double.
You need to keep an eye on Campbell. Alan
Dykstra will be returning to the B-Mets 25-man squad and the Mets are
going to have a hard time deciding who sits at first, Campbell or Josh Satin in AAA.
29 pitches in the first
inning is going to come back to hurt any chance for a win here for Zack… a
double, sac, and a single dribbled in another run in the 3rd… his
final line: 6.0-IP, 7-H, 3-ER, 3-K, 2-BB, 102-67, 1.92 – about what you would
expect in a morning game. I’m tell you… add the stats of all morning and rain
games and you have an ERA over six…
RP Adrian Rosario (3.86) blew up for the second day in a
row and Robert Carson (1.61) had to come in for
the last batter (SV-1)… no big hitting stars, but Lagares went 1-2, 2R, triple,
2-RBI, 3-BB. 2B Reese Havens – 1-5, .171
A+ - St. Lucie: -
Cancelled…
A – Savannah:
Harvey wasn’t the only
impressive prospect pitcher today. SP Michael Fulmer owned
Rome without being dominant (I must add here that Rome may be the worst minor league team
in the history of organized baseball…). Fulmer was done after 7.1-IP: 0-R, 3-H, 3-K, 2-BB, 3.35
LF Dustin Lawley (.277) continued to turn it up… 4-5, 1-R, 1-HR, 1-RBI
