HARRIS LIFTS METS TO 4-3 WIN OVER CUBS IN 12 INNINGS


PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA— Alonzo Harris had four hits and drilled a walk-off single to center to score Travis Taijeron in the bottom of the 12th as the Mets defeated the Daytona Cubs 4-3 on Tuesday at Digital Domain Park.
It was the second straight 12-inning game between the two teams as the Mets bounced back from an extra inning loss on Monday.
Taijeron was drilled by a pitch with one out in the 12th inning. Robbie Shields delivered a single to left to put runners at first and second with two outs. Harris, who finished 4-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored, lined a base hit to center to give the Mets their third win of the second half.
The Mets had a 2-0 lead entering the eighth, but the Cubs pushed across a pair of runs to tie the score and then jumped ahead on an RBI triple by Arismendy Alcantara in the ninth.
The Mets rallied in the bottom of the ninth to send it into extra innings. Harris ripped a leadoff double down the left field line to open the frame. Rylan Sandoval followed with a game-tying single to center to plate Harris.
Shields went 4-for-5 with an RBI and walk while Sandoval finished 3-for-6 with an RBI. Blake Forsythe and Taijeron each had two hits.
Tyler Pill tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out six in his fourth start with the Mets.  He allowed five hits and walked one. Jack Leathersich allowed three runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
John Church pitched two scoreless innings and gave up two hits with one strikeout.
Hamilton Bennett notched his seventh victory in relief after he tossed a scoreless 12th.
The Mets host the Daytona Cubs at Digital Domain Park at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Yohan Almonte is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
