Cardinals Hold Off Mets 7-6


PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA—Centerfielder Alonzo Harris had three hits and drove in two, but the Mets late-inning rally fell short as the Cardinals came away with a 7-6 victory on Tuesday at Digital Domain Park.


The Mets trailed 7-2 entering the eighth, but they rallied with three runs.  Alonzo Harris had an RBI triple to score ZeErika McQueen to start the comeback bid. Wilmer Flores delivered an RBI double to left-center to score Harris. Flores came around to score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Francisco Pena reached on an error to open up the ninth inning. Harris followed with an RBI single to score Pena to make it 7-6. With Harris at second, Flores struck out swinging and Cory Vaughn popped out to shortstop Ronny Gil to end the game.

Tyler Pill allowed four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings with two walks and one strikeout and suffered the loss.

Cardinals designated hitter Chris Edmondson ripped a three-run home run off Pill in the sixth inning to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead. Edmondson drove in five runs in the game

John Church walked three batters and allowed three runs over one inning. Jim Fuller pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one walk and two hits while striking out two.


Flores drove in two runs and Tovar went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Mets will look to bounce back against the Cardinals on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Digital Domain Park. Yohan Almonte is the scheduled starter for the Mets
