Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 6.27.12

MLB - Mets:

David Wright now leads Pablo Sandoval by 460,000 votes in last All-Star tally.

Kevin Kernan‏ -

Mets would win AL Central by 5 games from what I'm seeing here tonight at Yankee Stadium

Chase Bradford  -

“If people say that the minor league life is easy they are wrong. Countless hours spent at the field for not a lot of money, being away from family and future fiance for 8 months out of the year is not is easy. Yea i get to play a game and am thankful for that but people don’t really see what happens behind the scenes and how hard it is. Truly is the grind”

AAA – Buffalo:

TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Louisville Bats in the opening game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Tonight’s game is also the start of an eight-game home stand as the Herd will also welcome in the Durham Bulls, June 30 - July 3. The Bisons have not squared off with Louisville yet this season. In 2011, the Herd went 4-4 against the Bats after splitting each series in Buffalo and Louisville. Since their return to the International League in 1998, the Bisons are 60-52 (.536) overall against the Bats and are 34-22 (.607) at Coca-Cola Field.: RHP JEURYS FAMILIA takes the hill tonight for his 16th start of the season. The righty is coming off a loss in Norfolk (2.2IP, 5ER). Familia is third among Bisons starters with 62 strikeouts and is second with five wins on the year. Overall, he is 5-4 with a 5.00ERA in 66.2 innings of work.

2B Jordany Valdespin (.283) back where he belongs… CF Matt den Dekker (.228) hit his 3rd home run and is beginning to show signed of getting out of his Buffalo slump… in the case of SP Jeurys Familia, “that was better”:  5.0-IP, 1-R, 6-H, 3-K, 2-BB, 4.77… 84 pitchers… 48 strikes… RP Jenrry Mejia was for shit again… another two earned runs in one inning.

Look folks, the only think really important in Buffalo is Mejia, Familia, and Harvey. The rest is almost-prospect window dressing.

AA-Binghamton:

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Cory Mazzoni (1-0, 0.00) makes his second start of the season and first at NYSEG Stadium. The Pennsylvania native fired a complete-game in his Double-A debut against the Akron Aeros in the nightcap of a doubleheader on June 20. He allowed just one unearned run on five hits and struck out four over seven innings to help the -Mets snap a four-game losing streak. Selected in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft out of North Carolina State, Mazzoni started his season with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A), going 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA in 12 starts in the Florida State League.  LHP Richard Zagone (0-0, ---) makes his first start of the year for the Baysox after getting transferred from the Frederick Keys (High-A) yesterday. He allowed one run on four hits over six innings in his previous start for the Keys against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on June 21. Zagone went 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 13 appearances (nine starts) in the Carolina League. He also made two starts with the Norfolk Tides (AAA), going 1-0 while not allowing a run in 11.1 innings. Selected in the 6th round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Zagone is in his fifth pro season and third with the Bowie Baysox.

Mazzoni didn’t have much of time tonight… in fact, no one on the team did… let’s just chalk this one up and move on…

A+ - St. Lucie: -

4-3 daytime win in 11 innings…

Offensively, three guys had 11 hits. DH Alonzo Harris (.272) and 3B Robbie Shields  (.238) had four each while 2B Rylan Sandoval (.220) had three.

Pitching wise, an outstanding outing by SP Tyler Pill (6.2-IP, 5-H, 0-R,6-K, 1-BB, 2.78), while Jeffrey Walters (0.00), John Church (3.69), and Hamilton Bennett (win, 7-1, 3.38) combined for 3.2 scoreless innings.

A – Savannah:

Look, nothing against Blake Forsythe, but did the Mets pick the right catcher to promote to St. Lucie? Cam Maron had three more hits tonight and reached .299 in the 9th inning. He came into the night hitting .349/.378/.465/.843 in the past 10 games. Domingo Tapia and Carlos Vasquez were on a 50-pitch piggyback and neither won… they combined for 6.0-IP, 5-H, 2-ER, 6-K,but 5-BB.

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Three errors did the Clones in… CF Brandon Nimmo is hitting .167… SS Phillip Evans went 0-4…  where ARE those meds???

Rookie – Kingsport:

SP Steve Matz had his 2nd pro-start tonight and fared much better than his debut: 5.0-IP, 1-ER, 5-K, 3.24… RP Corey Oswalt would probably like to do his debut over too: 3.0-IP, 3-ER, 9.00…
