August 23rd - Tigers 6, Mets 1
Friday night at Citi Field The Tigers jumped all over new Met Daisuke Matsuzaka for 5 runs in his first two innings as they go on to beat the Mets handily 6-1. DiceK was just signed yesterday and was immediate put the test as Detroit tallied 5 hits and 5 runs in the first two innings. Torii Hunter hit a solo homer (#14) in the first inning to make it 1-zip; Marlon Byrd immediately tied the game in the bottom of the 1st with an rbi single. In the second Hunter hit an rbi ground-rule double to make it 2-zip, then Miguel Cabrera hit his 41st homer a 3 run shot and it was 5-1 Tigers. DiceK did settle down. He wound up going 5 innings. He allowed 6 hits all 5 earned runs he walked 1 and struck out 4. As a matter of fact, Matsuzaka retired the last 10 batters to face him. Doug Fister was his mound opponent; he went 6 1/3 allowed 8 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4. The Tigers made it 6-1 in the 7th on a solo homer by Austin Jackson (#11) to cap the scoring. Offensively for the Mets Wilmer Flores and Eric Young Jr. each had 3 hits as the Mets amassed 10 hits on the night. Matsuzaka takes the loss he falls to 0-1. Doug Fister gets the win he’s now 11-6. The Mets now slide to 10 games under .500 at 58-68. Their record at home is now 26-34. Saturday afternoon it’s a pitching rematch of the all-star game.
