Saturday in Flushing it was a rematch of the 2013 All-star game starters and Max Scherzer had the upper hand, striking out 11 in 6 innings allowing just 3 hits. The Tigers beat the Mets and Matt Harvey 3-0. Harvey was clearly not himself, going 6 2/3 innings giving up a career high 13 hits as he takes the loss. Harvey gave up both runs (earned) he walked 2 striking out 4. Despite the 13 hits, the Tigers only got to Harvey in the 2nd, taking the 2-0 advantage on surprising rbi double by Scherzer followed by an rbi infield single by Austin Jackson. For the Mets, they only managed 3 hits. However in the 5th, the Mets loaded the bases with one out against Scherzer, but he got out of it striking out Juan Legares on 4 pitches and then getting John Buck to pop up to end the Met threat. In the top of the 9th the Tigers added insurance against Gonzalez Germen, scoring on a sac-fly by Don Kelly Ike Davis got 2 of the 3 Met hits, one of those a double in the 5th. Harvey falls to 9-5 taking the loss. Scherzer improves to 19-1. With the loss the Mets fall to 11 games under .500 at 58-69. Their home record falls to 26-35.
