LAST GAME: The Akron Aeros defeated the B-Mets, 7-3 in the series opener at Canal Park last night. Binghamton committed four errors and trailed the entire game. Akron scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning against Mark Cohoon. They also had the boost of two B-Met errors. Offensively, Binghamton was limited to four hits by the Aeros. Alonzo Harris went 2-4 with a and RBI triple and a run scored. Cory Vaughn and Wilfredo Tovar drove in the other runs for Binghamton. Of the seven runs allowed by Binghamton, only two of them were earned. It was the first game played between these two teams since May 15, and the first in Akron since April 7.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his 24th start of the season for the B-Mets, and his first against Akron. Goeddel lost his last start on August 18 vs. New Britain. In six innings pitched, he gave up five runs and six hits. He is looking for his first win since July 21; he has made five starts since that time and is 0-3. Binghamton has lost each of his last five starts. In 123.1 innings, opponents are hitting .249 against him. In 13 starts away from NYSEG Stadium, Goeddel is 6-2 with a 4.11 ERA. His strongest month on the mound was in June, when he went 3-0 while posting a 1.08 ERA. He was drafted in the 24th round of the 2010 draft by the Mets out of UCLA.
AKRON STARTER: RHP Brett Brach pitches in his 25th game for the Aeros, and his 18th as a starter. In his last start, he earned the win on August 18 against Reading. He allowed one run and five hits over six innings pitched. He has received a decision in each of his last eight starts, and 14 of his last 15. Brach began the season in the bullpen, and made his first start on April 29 @ Altoona. He made seven relief appearances and gave up 10 earned runs in 18.2 innings. In August, he is 2-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 21.0 innings. The Indians drafted him in the 10th round of the 2009 draft out of Monmouth University.
ERRORS/ UNEARNED RUNS: Last night was the fourth time this season Binghamton has made four or more errors, and the first since May 15 vs. Akron. Three of those four games have been against the Aeros. The five unearned runs that scored last night were the most Binghamton has allowed all season.
HIT DIFFERENCE: Binghamton has allowed at least 10 hits in each of the last four games. They have been outhit by their opponents in six of their last seven games, and have six hits or less in seven of their last 12 games.
81 WINS: Binghamton’s 81 wins are the most in franchise history since 2000. In 1994, 1998, and 2000 the team won 82 games, which is the most in franchise history.
BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES: On Friday Binghamton will look to avoid dropping back-to-back games for the first time since August 1. The B-Mets’ longest losing streak this season is 3, only done once from May 1-3.
FOUR-RUN LOSS: Last night was the worst loss for Binghamton since July 16 when they lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 9-3. Since then, the B-Mets have lost seven games by one run.
AUGUST PITCHING NUMBERS: Despite a league-worst .226 team batting average in August, Binghamton is 14-7 during this month. The pitching staff has led the way, posting a league-best 2.39 ERA in the month. 14 wins are tied with Richmond for the most wins in the league.
WALK THIS WAY: Allan Dykstra leads the league with 98 walks, and a .445 on-base percentage. His career-high is 104 walks with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps (Low-A, SD) in 2008. His previous career-high in OBP in a full season is .397, also with the Tin Caps in 2008.
