A special outing for Robert Whalen: (W, 3-2) 7.0 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 5 K. With a 1.47 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in 11 starts, the 19 yr old Whalen, a 12th round selection in 2012, is inserting himself in the long line of young Mets outstanding arms.

What can you tell me about Victor Cruzado (KP). He's listed as a DH, does he have a position?

He has played all 3 outfield positions, although most of his time, when in the field, is in right. Of the 36 games he has played this year, only 4 have been as a DH, so I can't imagine why he would be listed as a DH, unless it is because they don't think he has sufficient range to make it as an outfielder. In the DSL for the 2 years prior to coming stateside, he played some infield too, mostly 2B.
You probably know that he is a switch hitter. He didn't do too much offensively in the DSL (hit a combined .250 with 2 teams as a 19 yr old, and then .279 as a 20 yr old) but he has always shown great plate discipline and has a high OBP where ever he has played. This is a breakout year for him in the Appy League. You probably know that he was Appy League Player of the Week in early July. Hitting .336 with an OBP of .429 and SLG of .492 are stats to make you sit up and take notice. He will either spend next year in Brooklyn or go right to Savannah. Here's hoping he is not a 1 year wonder.
He's about the same size & age as Champ Stuart, but apparently not as fast (2/1 SB/CS). I'm impressed most with his K/BB ratio. Could you compare ?
I'm not sure which one you are talking about when you are impressed with his K/BB ratio. Actually, both have good K/BB ratios. (Cruzado-1.32 vs Stuart-1.61) Stuart walks more (.18 BB/PA vs .13 BB/PA) than Cruzado, but he also strikes out more. I'm concerned with Stuarts strikeout rate. He could be a 150+ K guy in a full season.
Stuart is probably quicker, but Cruzado has more pop and is generally a better hitter. The fact that Stuart has been playing CF exclusively, while Cruzado has been mostly in RF, but has moved around a lot, should tell you something. It's really too early in their careers to make hard judgements, especially in Stuart's case since this is his first pro season. Lets wait and see . . . but meanwhile I really like Cruzado's prospects.
