The 70 Top Outfielders in th 20`4 MLB Draft

OF
1.       Derek Fisher

5-28-13 - Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - Like Conforto, the 6’-3”, 210-pound left-hander had a sensational freshman season, hitting .288 with 11 doubles, eight triples, seven home runs and 50 RBI. He has started hot out of the gate for the Cavaliers, going 13-for-38 (.342) over the first 11 games. He has added a double, triple, two home runs and has knocked in 16 runs for undefeated Virginia. A great athlete, he also has an advanced approach at the plate, drawing seven walks to six strikeouts this year and has a .457 OBP. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft/29840#fm24otWuYCEocLQZ.99

5-27-13 - Derek Fisher was a much higher profile prospect than Turner in the same 2011 prep draft class, turning down significant money in the 6th round from Texas. Fisher was a big name for a while in high school, but as a cold weather prospect from Pennsylvania that had an iffy spring and serious swing-and-miss questions, his seven figure price tag limited his options. His freshman year in Charlottesville followed this narrative, as he hit .288 with 22 walks and 61 strikeouts in 219 AB despite flashing upside with 11 doubles, 8 triples and 7 homers as a toolshed with a center field profile. Fisher has made some adjustments at the plate this spring, hitting .309/.423/.533 with 23 BB and 30 K. There's a lot to like here with a 6'3, 210 pound left-handed hitting center fielder that flashes above average speed and power with some aptitude for making adjustments. LINK

6-9-13  -   15.Derek Fisher, OF (Virginia): Even though he underwhelmed a bit in 2013, he’s one of the best offensive prospects at the college level. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-10-13 - Derek Fisher, OF Virginia - Fisher was one of my favorite players in the 2011 draft class.  He is a good athlete with a line drive swing with good bat speed.  There is good power projection in his bat.  His approach has improved over the last year at Virginia. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/

6-13-13  -  17. San Francisco Giants — Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - A great athlete, the 6’-3”, 210 pound left-hander greatly improved his approach this season cutting down his strikeouts from 61 to 38 over roughly the same number of plate appearances while upping his walks from 22 to 28. Over 53 games, he hit .306 with 12 doubles, seven home runs, stole eight bases and had a .420 OBP/.505 SLG. His size suggests more power will come and, if it does, he will be one of the better all-around college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

6-30-13  -  Frankie Piliere ‏@FPilierePG  - Watching @HarwichMariners take BP - the ball acts very different off Derek Fisher's bat. Easy line drives and big CF carry @UVABaseball

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 24. Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - A great athlete, the 6’-3”, 210-pound left-hander greatly improved his approach this season cutting down his strikeouts from 61 to 38 over roughly the same number of plate appearances while upping his walks from 22 to 28. Over 53 games, he hit .306 with 12 doubles, seven home runs, stole eight bases and had a .420 OBP/.505 SLG. His size suggests more power will come and, if it does, he will be one of the better all-around college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 8 – Phillies – OF  Derek Fisher – Virginia – Excellent gap hitter with above average bat speed. Had a horrible 2013 offensively in school but still projects out as a top draft pick. Projects as one of the top college bats in the draft.

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 8.)OF, Derek Fisher, Virginia, 6'2 210, L/R, strong durable build with solid ML arm from the OF, has on the way, plus speed once he gets out of the box, could steal 20 bases in ML once he arrives, has straight away power, a lil glitch in his hitting approach but good strength and bat speed to make adjustments with hitting instruction at the pro level. Definite early round follow for 2014. http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 17. Baltimore Orioles — Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia  A great athlete, the 6’-3”, 210-pound left-hander greatly improved his approach this season cutting down his strikeouts from 61 to 38 over roughly the same number of plate appearances while upping his walks from 22 to 28. Over 53 games, he hit .306 with 12 doubles, seven home runs, stole eight bases and had a .420 OBP/.505 SLG. His size suggests more power will come and, if it does, he will be one of the better all-around college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects -  6. Derek Fisher, of, Virginia (Drafted: 2011, Rangers -- 6th round) - Last year, Hunter Renfroe was the guy we tabbed as someone who would take a big step forward. Fisher fits that bill for the 2014 campaign. Fisher is very athletic with a good frame. He has a smooth swing from the left side and has the tools and power to be a feared, elite hitter in college and at the next level.

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 1. Derek Fisher / OF / Virginia — Fischer is going to have to hit — he doesn’t have the arm strength or instincts to be anything but a left fielder — to earn this ranking, but he certainly has the offensive tools to justify it. The left-handed hitting outfielder has above-average bat speed and a linear swing that should lead to above-average power numbers, though we haven’t seen that translate into games as much as one would hope. Consistency has been a problem for Fischer, but with a strong junior season you could see him go very early, as he’s one of the few middle of the order type bats in this class. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 16. Derek Fisher, of, Virginia: Powerful lefthanded swing makes him a potential first-rounder, though his defense and all-around tools are more in question. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-18-13 – Matt Garroich – Derek Fisher at Virginia was highly touted out of high school, I had him 20th overall in the draft, and he has done nothing to hurt his stock while a Cavalier. He still has some swing and miss issues, a balding head and big time power but his speed has maintained better than I expected. His toolset is that of a solid regular or better in the majors. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/10/18/4851030/2014-mlb-draft-atlantic-region-college-discussion

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll –  11 Derek Fisher    OF Virginia http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  17- OF Derek Fisher Virginia 8/21/93- He is one of two players who turned down the Rangers out of HS and look to be top 15 picks in this draft. (Max Pentecost the other) His hit tool is the best in the college class but the question mark is his defense. He will be a LF because his arm strength and speed only fit that position. I think he could be a 20-25 HR with 40 2B guy in his prime but bat first (and maybe only) prospect are always a concern. (Brewers @ 12) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

2.       Braxton Davidson

6-13-13  -  14. Philadelphia Phillies — Braxton Davidson, OF, T C Roberson HS (NC) - The 6’-3”, 215 pound left-hander will be one of the best prep bats in the 2014 MLB draft due to his bat speed, advanced approach at the plate and raw power. He shows good pitch recognition and his strong wrists allow him to wait on any pitch. Over 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. His strong arm would play well in a corner outfield spot. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html

7-2-13  -  2014  - Top 100 High School Prospects - 4. Braxton Davidson- OF, T.C. Roberson (NC) HS - Absolutely mashed at TOS. Three home runs, and hit everything hard. Best bat at the event - http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  4. Braxton Davidson, 1b/of, Roberson High, Asheville, N.C./Dirtbags - The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Davidson has a large frame with wide shoulders and a strong lower half. Using a wide base and deep hand load, Davidson produces raw plus power, which is his carrying tool. With three home runs in four games, he tied the TOS record and hit more home runs than all of the players at last year’s TOS combined (two). Folklore grew that one homer bounced onto a highway more than 500 feet away. His prodigious power does come at the expense of swings and misses. With adequate speed and arm strength, the North Carolina commit could play an outfield corner, but profiles best at first base. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 8. Braxton Davidson, 1B/RF, T.C. Roberson HS (NC) - 6'2/215, L/L, Draft Day Age: 17.97, North Carolina commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Davidson is the safest bet on this list: he already has above average raw power with an upper body that should add even more strength to go with elite feel at the plate that already racks up extra base hits to all fields in bunches. He could fit in right field for now and he's one of the younger players in the class. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects   - 3. Braxton Davidson – OF/1B, T.C. Roberson (NC) HS - The most feared hitter in the 2014 class. Davidson hits everything hard and had three home runs at TOS. He continued to hit at ECP. http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 15. Braxton Davidson, OF, TC Roberson HS (NC) - The 6’-3”, 215-pound left-hander will be one of the best prep bats in the 2014 MLB draft due to his bat speed, advanced approach at the plate and raw power. He shows good pitch recognition, and his strong wrists allow him to wait on any pitch. Over 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. His strong arm would play well in a corner outfield spot. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego - *There aren’t a ton of left-handed bats in this year’s class, but Braxton Davidson (T.C. Roberson High School, N.C.) stood out with easy power and a smooth stroke from the left side. The issue was defensively, as he struggled making throws and I don’t see the athleticism to play right field. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

8-16-13 - 11th All-American Classic - Braxton Davidson (OF/1B, TC Roberson HS (Asheville, NC)): Big 6-foot-3, 215 pound frame; big trunk; square stance; a toe-tap timing; balanced, fluid swing quick to the ball; creates good loft; potential 6/6 hit/power guy; arm is solid and accurate; chance he’s limited to first base, but could be a good one; hit tool is one of the most advanced in the prep class. —Chris Rodriguez http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21537

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects - 3.Braxton Davidson – 1B/OF, T.C. Roberson (NC) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 9. Toronto Blue Jays — Braxton Davidson, OF, TC Roberson HS (NC)  The 6’-3”, 215-pound left-hander will be one of the best prep bats in the 2014 MLB mock draft (and the real one too) due to his bat speed, advanced approach at the plate and raw power. He shows good pitch recognition, and his strong wrists allow him to wait on any pitch. Over 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. His strong arm would play well in a corner outfield spot. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 20.)1B, Braxton Davidson, 6'2 205, L/L, TC Roberson HS, Asheville NC, has some bat speed and dead pull power to RF, ave arm strength and knows how to handle the bag, not a burner as far as a runner goes, 4.4 from Left side at best, 7.2, 60 type guy, will go as far as his bat takes him. http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Braxton Davidson, OF, TC Roberson HS (NC) - For all of the power the Cubs have in their system, none of them are left-handed. Davidson is a 6’-3”, 215 pound left-hander with excellent bat speed, an advanced approach at the plate and some serious raw power. He shows good pitch recognition and his strong wrists allow him to wait on any pitch. With 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. Like Gatewood, he isn’t a speed guy but his strong arm (92 mph) should play well in a corner outfield spot but he could also end up at first base where the power potential would play well when he makes it out of the 2014 MLB draft. Even with his size, there is still a lot of projection left as his frame suggest he could add more weight as he matures. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 29. Braxton Davidson, 1b/of, Roberson HS, Asheville, N.C.: Young for the class, Davidson provides a powerful lefthanded bat with pop and a feel to hit. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 9. Braxton Davidson, OF, Dirtbags (Roberson High, Asheville, N.C.) -  Packs a lot of left-handed power in his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame; pitchers rarely challenged him in Jupiter. http://ht.ly/qi5No

11-14-13 - Michael Schwartze - The two top names behind Jackson are Clovis (Calif.) High School shortstop Jacob Gatewood and T.C. Robertson (Ashville, N.C.) High School outfielder Braxton Davidson. Gatewood has big upside with huge raw power, but showed contact issues over the summer, as his swing was often stuck in batting-practice mode during games leading to a lot of swings and misses. Davidson showed enough plate skills to suggest he’s one of the best pure hitters in prep class but may require an eventual switch to first base. His draft stock will carry him, but if he can stick in right field he’s probably a surefire first-round selection come June. http://www.studentsports.com/blog/2013/11/13/baseball-jupiter-wraps-up-2013-showcase-circuit/

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 10 Braxton Davidson OF/1B L/L 6-1 217 Roberson HS, Asheville, N.C. North Carolina http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 9. Toronto Blue Jays: Braxton Davidson, 1B-OF, Roberson HS (N.C.) - Braxton Davidson is an arguably the best pure hitter among prep prospects. A 6’2”, 215-pound left-handed hitter, the North Carolina commit has a smooth, balanced swing that already produces above-average raw power and will likely develop into a plus attribute as he adds strength. In general, Davidson has an advanced feel for hitting, with the ability to barrel the ball to all fields and collect extra-base hits as though it’s about to go out of style. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 11. Braxton Davidson, 1B/OF, TC Roberson HS (NC) - Power from the left side is always in demand, and at 6’-3” and 215 pounds, Davidson has plenty of it. He may be relegated to first base, in which case a lot of pressure will be put on his bat to produce. He has excellent bat speed and an advanced approach at the plate, with good pitch recognition and the ability to wait on pitches. Over 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. Committed to North Carolina. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

3.       Michael Conforto

5-28-13 - Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - After hitting .349 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, 76 RBI and a slash line of .438/.601/1.039 as a freshman last year, the 6’-1”, 200-pound left-hander was showered with awards and had high expectations coming into this year. After nine games, he was hitting .273 with two doubles, no home runs and four RBI. On Saturday, he went 3-for-7 in a double-header with his first two home runs of the season and five RBI. On Sunday, he went 3-for-5 with two more home runs and seven RBI. The bat has woken up, and I expect a full on assault coming for one of the best overall hitters in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft/29840#fm24otWuYCEocLQZ.99

6-9-13 -  28.Michael Conforto, OF (Oregon State): The PAC-12 outfielder has a quality hit tool and improving approach, but will need to hit for more power. Even so, he has a high floor. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-10-13 -  Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - A scout’s quick take on Conforto was that “This kid can flat out rake. I think he’s going to be the best bat in the Pac-12 next year, if not in 2013.”  He has very good bat speed with lift.  The term “the ball jumps off his bat” is one of the most overused in baseball, but it is definitely appropriate in Conforto’s case. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/

6-12-13 - Player:  Michael Conforto   Position:  OF   School:  Oregon State   Date of Birth:  3/1/1993   Height/Weight:  6’1/215   Bats/Throws:  L/R   2014 Class:  College Junior

Scouting Report:   One of the top college bats for 2014   Strong, muscular build

Open stance   Smooth swing with lift   Excellent bat speed   Plus raw power

 Ball jumps off bat

6-9-13 - 21. Arizona Diamondbacks — Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - After an incredible freshman season in which he hit .349 over 58 games with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, 76 RBI and a .438 OBP/.601 SLG, the 6’-1”, 215 pound left-hander has regressed a bit his sophomore year. Over 58 games, he is hitting .326 with nine home runs, 42 RBI and a .450 OBP/.501 SLG. While he has improved his walk rate and approach, the power numbers are down. A great talent, he should be among the better college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. He has been a little inconsistent in the outfield this season but shows enough to hold down a corner outfield spot. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

7-17-13 –  Mike Conforto, OF, Oregon State - Conforto has a strong, sturdy build at 6'1, 215" that looks like it's all muscle.  He's not going to wow you with his tools the way Turner does but he makes hard contact consistently, including a pair of HRs in the Tuesday game.  His bat is his main weapon as he should hit for average that he'll supplement with walks and above average power.  Defensively he's probably relegated to LF.  He's a little thick legged and doesn't have great range nor did he display good arm strength.  That puts a tremendous burden on his bat, but it looks like it's capable of carrying the load. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/07/looking-ahead-to-the-2014-and-2015-mlb-draft-notes-from-the-collegiate-national-team-games/

7-21-13 - Cuba’s Norge Ruiz dominated his first time through the order, striking out five of the first nine batters faced. The second time through the order got off to a strong start for Team USA as Trea Turner (NC State) opened the fourth with a base hit to left center. LSU’s Alex Bregman followed with a base knock to give Team USA a pair of base runners. With one out and runners on the corners, Michael Conforto (Oregon State) broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to left. http://ht.ly/2yvWIz

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 11. Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - Maybe the best pure hitter available in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-2”, 215-pound right-hander uses the whole field and has a great approach at the plate. I got a chance to see him hit when the Collegiate National team played at Kane County, and I was extremely impressed by the way he handles himself at the plate — waiting for his pitch and driving it to the gaps with ease. He hit .328/.447/.526 over 65 games as a sophomore with 11 home runs and 41 walks. He’s not going to steal many bases, and he will most likely end up in left field. His bat is what will land him in the first round. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 12 – OF - Michael Conforto – Oregon State – This is a 6-1 bulldog type hitter. Michael Choice-like projected power.  I expect he will end this upcoming season as one of the top power hitters in college.

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 18. New York Yankees — Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State Maybe the best pure hitter available in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-2”, 215-pound right-hander uses the whole field and has a great approach at the plate. Surprising that he falls this far in the 2014 MLB mock draft, I got a chance to see him hit when the Collegiate National team played at Kane County, and I was extremely impressed by the way he handles himself at the plate — waiting for his pitch and driving it to the gaps with ease. He hit .328/.447/.526 over 65 games as a sophomore with 11 home runs and 41 walks. He’s not going to steal many bases, and he will most likely end up in left field. His bat is what will land him in the first round. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 15.) OF, Michael Conforto, Oregon St, 5'11 190, L/L, a hitter with good enough defensive skills to reach ML, shows short compact stroke with gap power to RF, should hit 15-20 HR in pro ball, enough speed to be respected and defensively won't be a liability, best suited for the corner OF. Top 4 round guy for 2014! One of best offensive tools hitter coming out of the college ranks for 2014. http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 13. Michael Conforto / LF-1B / Oregon State — He likely won’t provide much value with the glove or on the bases, but he’s been extremely productive for Oregon State and should hit enough to stick in left field someday. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 18. Michael Conforto, of, Oregon State: More swing and miss than scouts would like mitigate a physical, powerful corner profile. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll –  11 Derek Fisher    OF Virginia http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 28. Oakland Athletics: Michael Conforto, OF/1B, Oregon State University - A 6’1”, 215-pound left-hander hitter, Michael Conforto stands out for his power potential—but unfortunately not much else. Conforto is a mature hitter with plus raw power thanks to above-average bat speed and an ability to consistently drive the ball with backspin carry. Because he’s gradually adjusted his approach over the last year to produce more in-game power, the utility of his hit tool may be tied to his strikeout rate. Defensively, Conforto is limited to left field due to below-average arm strength and speed, as well as his shaky instincts and stiff actions. And if he eventually moves to first base, well, there will be even more pressure for his power to develop.  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

4.       Michael Gettys

6-9-13  -  26. Boston Red Sox — Michael Gettys, RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - An athletic right-hander who has touched 95 mph with his fastball, the 6’-2” Gettys is one of the more exciting players to watch in the 2014 prep class. As a junior, he hit .406 and stole 38 bases over 32 games. On the mound, he had a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings. He tossed two no-hitters and struck out 2013 fifth-overall pick Clint Frazier twice in their match-up on April 12. In an interview I did with Frazier, he said Gettys was the best pitcher he faced all season. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present/34008#Vj5KQGPZZT1XUyhx.99

6-13-13  -  26. He tossed two no-hitters and struck out 2013 fifth-overall pick Clint Frazier twice in their match-up on April 12. 6-13-13  -  Jeff Sullivan ‏@JSully12 - Mentioned him a lot today, but Michael Gettys is having a Clint Frazier type National Showcase performance...

6-29-13  -  Perfect Game USA ‏@PerfectGameUSA  - 2014 RHP Michael Gettys (GA) with 2 scoreless innings so far. 90-92 mph with his fastball! – PG Tourney

6-30-13 - Jheremy Brown ‏@JBrownPG  - 2014 OF Michael Gettys (Gainesville, GA) went 2/3 with a double off the wall & a hard line drive triple to LCF Also stole a base #PGTourney

7-1-13 - Two Georgia high school outfielders, Clint Frazier (fifth overall) and Austin Meadows (ninth overall), headlined this year’s Major League Baseball Draft. The 2012 MLB Draft featured local Georgia standout Byron Buxton (second overall) who is already making noise on the professional circuit. Next year’s draft could sport another Georgia high school outfielder in the early rounds: Michael Gettys.  Gettys’ stock seems to be on a continuous incline at the 2013 18u WWBA National Championship, which is hard to do when you’re already at the top.  Gettys stood out to scouts as a five-tool player at the Perfect Game National Showcase, impressing as a pitcher and an outfielder. Gettys hit 94 mph on his fastball, recording an outfield velocity of 100 mph (an event record), ran a 6.46 60-yard dash, and kept scouts very busy during his batting practice session. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8731

7-5-13 - Michael Gettys, RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - The 6’-2” right-hander put on a show at the Perfect Game Nationals. He hit 100 mph from the outfield, 95 mph on the mound and ran a 6.4/60, firmly placing himself among the elite of the 2014 class. A great athlete, he hit .406 and stole 38 bases over 32 games as a junior. On the mound, he had a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings, including two no-hitters. In an interview I did with 2013 fifth overall pick Clint Frazier, he said Gettys was the toughest pitcher he faced all year after striking out twice against him in their match-up on April 12. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/prep-arms-chicago-cubs/34856#Vp7zJ4JvRevfV1fR.99

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 7. Michael Gettys, CF/RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - 6'2/200, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.62, Georgia commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Known primarily as a pitcher entering the summer, Gettys showed plus-plus speed, arm strength and bat speed to go with at least average power in a June showcase before working 91-94 mph with an above average breaking ball on the mound. Most scouts prefer his upside as a hitter and there's questions about his ability to hit off-speed stuff but he could move up this list with a strong spring. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-1-13     - Jeff Sullivan ‏@JSully12  -  Michael Gettys - RHP, Gainesville (GA) HS sitting 90-91

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 5. Michael Gettys – OF/RHP, Gainesville (GA) HS - A true 5 tool prospect. Has the best OF arm in the class and ran a 6.43 60 at National Showcase. 6.58 at ECP. Also sat 90-91 on the mound and can run it up to 94. http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 13. Michael Gettys, OF/RHP, Gainesville HS (GA) - Maybe the most all-around talented prep player in the draft, the 6’-2” right-hander excels at just about everything on the baseball field. He plays the game at breakneck speed, much like fellow Georgia native, and fifth-overall pick in last year’s draft, Clint Frazier. He may have higher upside as an offensive player where his plus speed, plus bat speed and power rank him at the top among outfield prospects. He can also sling it 100 mph from the outfield, which would allow him to play all three outfield spots at the next level. On the mound, his fastball can touch 95 mph and he adds a mid-70s curveball. He posted a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP with 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings as a junior. Frazier told me he was the toughest pitcher he faced all season. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego - * Michael Gettys (Gainesville High School, Ga.) has as good of throwing arm as any outfielder as I’ve seen in my time doing this, and when you combine that with above-average power and 70 speed, and you get scouts to giggle like school children. With that being said, Gettys is incredibly raw, and he struggled with the breaking stuff he saw over the weekend. The talent is impressive, but it’s extremely raw. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

8-16-13 - 11th All-American Classic - Michael Gettys | OF/RHP | Gainesville HS (Gainesville, GA)  Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 205 pounds  B/T: R/R  Draft Day Age: 18 years, 7 months  Commitment: Georgia  Scouting Notes: Physical and athletic; built like a free safety, with a strong upper body; clearly has raw physical tools; run is easy plus; clocked a 4.03 to first in game action; gets out of the box fast and reaches top speed very quickly; arm is a hose—looks like a 7 (plus-plus); batting practice performance stood out; loud contact from easy swing; barreling up everything; game swing was still impressive, but didn’t find the same contact; not sure about the recognition; don’t see impact bat but red ass player with tools and a chance to hit.  http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21537

8-30-13 - Like Buxton and Demeritte, Michael Gettys is a two-way player with a plus arm who has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield and can hit 95 mph on the mound. Also like those two, his offensive potential should override his upside on the mound. Aside from his plus arm, Gettys also has plus speed, plus bat speed and showed some serious power at the Under Armour All-American Game home run derby at Wrigley Field. One of his home runs was a moonshot to dead center field and several others were high arching bombs to left. Pitchers don’t typically do things like that. In fact, most of the people around me at the game agreed when I stated, “That’s not a pitcher.” That’s not to say he couldn’t make it as a starter. Aside from his fastball, he has a nice mid-70s curveball and is very aggressive on the mound, attacking hitters without fear. He tossed two no-hitters as a junior and posted a 0.99 ERA, 0.74 WHIP with 114 K/18 BB over 73 innings. On April 12, in a heavily scouted game between Gainesville and Loganville, he struck out 2013 fifth-overall pick Clint Frazier twice. He has the size, stuff and mentality to make it. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/michael-gettys/37172

9-1-13 – Petco Game - Michael Gettys (CF) (R/R) 6’2″ 205; Grad: 2014 Gainesville, GA Large frame w/compact, muscular build. From a body perspective, it’s similar to a Mike Trout look. Uphill swing w/extra juice at contact. Exceptional RAW power has the ability to put them in the seats during BP. Swing geared for FB and still working on pitch recognition in game; some swing and miss to CB. Burner on the bases. More than enough range for  CF and playable arm anywhere in the OF. Can’t miss 8arm and still remains his best tool. Bat remains suspect, but if he puts it together you’re looking at a complete 5 tool package. Big  upside here.  http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/09/01/aflac-game-wrap-up-better-late-than-never/

8-15-13 - Under Armour All-Star Game – Michael Gettys, RHP/OF:  Perhaps the best two-way player in the draft, Gettys has 1st round potential as a pitcher and outfielder but most seem to like him as an OF'er where he has the potential for all 5 tools including, of course, a rocket arm.  He's a high energy player, a style that remind some of Clint Frazier, who was also a Georgia prep product.  Gettys  is faster than Frazier with a better chance to stick in CF.  He's an explosive player but all of this is leading to his one weakness -- his approach is every bit as aggressive as the rest of his game.  He goes up there swinging. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/08/2014-mlb-draft-ua-game-roster-and-preview-plus-more-tickets-and-meet-up-information/

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 13 – OF Michael Gettys – Gainsville (GA) HS – Gettys could easily be drafted as a starting pitcher, but it’s his bat that’s going to get him to the major someday. Stood out at the 2013 18u WWBA National Championship. Showed some serious power at the Under Armour All-American Game home run derby at Wrigley Field that caused his summer stock to rise so rapidly. Throwing speed from outfield: 100

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects - 1.Michael Gettys – OF/RHP, Gainesville (GA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 6. Seattle Mariners — Michael Gettys, OF, Gainesville HS (GA)  There isn’t much to nitpick about the 6’-2” right-hander with all five tools. He has plus speed, an arm that has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield and, with great bat speed, the power is coming fast. A two-way player with great stuff on the mound, his future is in the outfield where his speed and arm make him a legitimate center field prospect at the next level. Another kid who I got to see launch bombs out of Wrigley, as well as show off him arm with a strike to third base from centerfield, the Mariners would be getting a high character kid with as much talent as anyone in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Michael Gettys, OF, Gainesville HS (GA) - Theo Epstein and Co. have always made it clear that they will take the best available player in the 2014 MLB draft over need. Gettys, a 6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander, may be the best available player when the Cubs are on the clock. A plus runner with a plus arm, he has been timed at 6.43 in the 60 and his arm has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield. I got a chance to see him at Wrigley for the Under Armour All American Game and, after seeing him deposit a home run to dead center field, the power is real, too. With excellent bat speed, he should be a high-average hitter, giving him all five tools. He has a strong, linebacker-type  build — similar to that of Mike Trout — and has added 50 pounds to his frame over the last two years without losing any of his explosiveness. I had the opportunity to interview Gettys and you can read it here. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 13. Michael Gettys, of/rhp, Gainesville (Ga.) HS: Plus speed and power and one of best arms in the class, but he struggled to hit this summer. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings –  1  -   Michael Gettys OF RHP 6-2 205 R R Gainesville Gainesville GA  Georgia Tigers Baseball  -  Very impressive 2 way prospect! Showed big power, 100 mph from OF arm, 6.4 runner and mid 90's on the mound at PG National! Smoked 2B in PG AA  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 15 Michael Gettys OF/RHP R/R 6-1 203 Gainesville (Ga.) HS Georgia http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

11-23-13 – Michael Gettys - Body:  Strong Athletic body with sloped shoulders.  He has a muscular but lean frame.  He has a long limbs and a very strong lower half. Swing:   Gettys’ stance starts slightly open with his hands above his shoulders.  His stride is about a 65 degree stride that helps him keep his hips closed.  He has a shoulder rotation trigger in which he closes up his front shoulder.   This will help him keep his hands back on off speed pitches.  He has a very short swing that is direct to the ball with a high finish giving him lift.  He shows above average to plus bat speed.  He does show very good pitch selection. He could hit for avg and power at the next level. Base running:  Plain and simple, Michael is a burner.  He has been clocked at 6.42 in the 60 yard.  He gets a very quick step out of the box.  He shows very good instincts on the bases and the ability to read pitchers to get a good jump. Defense:  Gettys has good instincts in the field and shows good routes for his age in CF.  He also shows good reactions on his first step.   All that being said, he has a canon for an arm.  He throws 94 off the mound and shows an even better arm from the OF hitting 100mph. Summary:  Michael Gettys is a two way player, but I think his futures is roaming CF and terrifying pitchers at the plate.  Gettys is a toolsy player and still has some refining to do which is going to just make him even better.  For me Gettys is a top 10 pick and maybe even a top 5 if everything comes together. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/23/scouting-report-michael-gettys-of/

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll –  5 Michael Gettys    OF Gainesville (GA) http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

12-4-13 - Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB  - Highly unlikely. Tools too good, he'll get paid. @mygodafreshman: any chance UGA gets Michael Gettys to play college ball?

B/R – 11-21-13 - 7. Philadelphia Phillies: Michael Gettys, OF/RHP, Gainesville HS (Ga.) - Even though he’s capable of pumping low-90s fastballs off the mound, Michael Gettys' most realistic future is as a center fielder. Possessing plenty of strength at 6’2”, 200 pounds, Gettys is one of the top runners in the 2014 draft class, showcasing plus-plus speed on both sides of the ball.  At the dish, the right-handed hitter has shown improved bat speed over the summer and is expected to offer at least average power at maturity. His secondary skills and pitch recognition are both raw but figure to improve as he continues to gain experience.  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 4. Michael Gettys OF, Gainesville HS (GA) - The 6’-2”, 200-pound right-hander has all the tools, it’s just a matter of refining them a bit. His arm has been clocked at 100 mph from the outfield, he can run a 6.4/60, and I saw him crush a home run to dead center at Wrigley Field that went halfway up the bleachers, so the power is there. Focusing more on being a hitter this year than a pitcher should help his progress, and he could easily be the first prep player taken off the board. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  8-OF/RHP Michael Gettys Gainesville HS (Georgia Commit) 10/22/95- He is probably the most exciting player in this draft with his 5 tool potential as an OF and his powerful arm off the mound. I like him, as a position player personally as his tool set is game changing. He has plus speed with a plus arm (throwing 100 from RF in a showcase) but with his aggressive approach he still lacks the elite status because of his swing and miss potential. (Phillies @ 7) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

5.       Derek Hill

7-2-13  -  2014  - Top 100 High School Prospects -  96. Derek Hill- OF, Elk Grove (CA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  8. Derek Hill, of, Elk Grove (Calif.) High/NorCal - The son of former minor leaguer and current Dodgers area scout Orsino Hill, Derek is a student of the game. He ran consecutive 60-yard times on grass at TOS in just under 6.4 seconds, and he is one of the fastest players in the class. He consistently produces home-to-first times in the 4.0-4.1-second range from the right side. Hill, who is uncommitted, is one of the top defensive players in the class and has a knack for making highlight-reel catches. He also has an average present arm. At the plate, Hill has a high hand load, balanced base and short stride. He has quick hands, bat speed and a line-drive oriented approach. Hill has a short stroke conducive to hard contact up the middle and to the gaps. The lean 6-foot-1, 175-pounder with a V-shaped upper body has a discerning eye at the plate and rarely swings and misses. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 16. Derek Hill, CF, Elk Grove HS (CA) - 6'2/170, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.43, No college commitment - Quick Take: Hill comes from the same school as 2013 bonus babes 1B Rowdy Tellez (Blue Jays, $850,000) and C Dom Nunez (Rockies, $800,000) and may make more money than both of them. He's had among the best game at-bats early in showcase season but also shows easy plus speed and a fluid swing with a direct bat path. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

B/R – 11-21-13 - 31. St. Louis Cardinals: Derek Hill, OF, Elk Grove HS (Calif.) - Already considered by scouts to be the fastest player in the 2014 draft class with legitimate top-of-the-order, plus-plus speed, Derek Hill’s prospect stock should continue to climb next spring with the improvement of his baseball skills. At 6’2”, 170 pounds, Hill’s wheels are obvious on both sides of the ball, especially in center field where he’s a plus defender who should be able to stick at the position. At the dish, the right-handed hitter has a smooth swing and knows how to get the barrel on the ball. He’s already drawn rave reviews for the present in-game utility of his hit tool, and it should only improve as he continues to develop. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 26. Derek Hill, OF, Elk Grove HS (CA) - One of the better defensive outfielders in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-2” right-hander has been timed at 6.44 in the 60 and his arm has been clocked at 93 mph from the outfield. His instincts, route running and speed allow him to make highlight plays in center and he should stick at the premium position. At the plate, he shows good bat speed and developing power. Committed to Oregon. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

6.       Bradley Zimmer

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 30. Bradley Zimmer, OF, San Francisco - The younger brother of Royals prospect Kyle Zimmer, Bradley is a 6’-5”, 205-pound, left-handed hitter who has tremendous speed for his size. He also has a great arm and instincts in the field. Over 58 games as a sophomore, he hit .320/.437/.512 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and stole 19 bases. He also shows a great approach at the plate as he drew 29 walks to 31 strikeouts and was hit by a pitch a whopping 16 times, proving he’ll do whatever it takes to get on base. He showed off his wheels for The Collegiate National Team, swiping 11 of 12 bases over 21 games while also hitting an even .300. An exciting player who could shoot up draft boards with another impressive junior season. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 13.)OF, Bradley Zimmer, U San Francisco, 6'4 210, R/R, runs well, has broad shoulders and type of frame to get bigger and stronger, can see him getting to 6'4 235 easily, flat swing with good bat speed and power potential, 5 tools at present, all could be well abv average with more experience. http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 4. Bradley Zimmer / OF / San Francisco — The younger brother of Royal first-rounder Kyle, Zimmer is an impressive athlete who looks like he can play center field despite his size (6-5, 205). Right now the left-handed hitting outfielder is much more raw talent than finished product, but with some raw power and above-average tools across the board he will be a coveted prospect come June. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 12. Bradley Zimmer, of, San Francisco: The rare college bat with projection as well as strong present tools; scouts are divided on his power/ potential. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  32- OF Brad Zimmer U. of San Francisco 11/27/92- He is the younger brother of 2012 Kansas City Royals 1st round pick Kyle. Zimmer is a tall, lean RF with a solid line drive approach and good speed. He has a very good arm and uses all fields well from the left side of the plate. I saw him play Missouri in 40-degree weather last March and he showed very good bat control and a solid baseball IQ. (Red Sox @ 30) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

7.       Marcus Wilson

7-2-13  -  2014  - Top 100 High School Prospects -  81. Marcus Wilson- OF, Serra (CA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  Marcus Wilson, of, Junipero Serra, Los Angeles/SGV Arsenal - Wilson offers projection as he fills his lean, wiry 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. He has broad shoulders, a tapered waist and leans legs. Wilson, who is uncommitted, has athleticism, fluid actions and plus speed capable of 60-yard-dash times in the 6.5 range and home-to-first times around 4.1. The member of SGV Arsenal has arm strength and defensive prowess in center field. A righthanded hitter, Wilson has good bat speed and has shown the present ability to hit in games. Wilson is young for the class and will not be 18 until two months after the draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 22. Marcus Wilson, CF, Serra HS (CA) - 6'3/175, R/R, Draft Day Age: 17.81, No college commitment - Quick Take: Wilson is another projection bet that's very young for the class with a very projectable, long-limbed, broad-shouldered frame that's he's still growing into. He posted plus-plus run times in the 60 and in games and shows some feel to hit in games with gap power than should improve with age. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 48. Marcus Wilson, OF, Serra HS (CA) - At 6’-3” and 180 pounds, the right-hander is raw in areas but has a lot of upside based on his plus speed and ability to drive the ball to all fields. His size implies more power will come. He also has a plus arm and is one of those players that gets better every time out. One of the youngest players in the 2014 MLB draft and one of those quick-twitch athletes that scouts love. 8.       Zach Shannon

7-2-13 - 2014 Top 100 High School Prospects - 15. Zach Shannon- OF/RHP, Anderson (OH) HS -  Big time power in the bat, and can run it up to 94 on the mound http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 18. Zach Shannon, RF, Anderson HS (OH) - 6'2/220, R/R, Draft Day Age: 17.96, Ohio State commit - Quick Take: Shannon has a plus arm in right field and is 91-94 mph with a plus 78-81 mph slider on the mound but has an ugly arm action so scouts prefer him as a hitter. Shannon is young for the class, has a live bat with above average bat speed, feel to hit in games, at least average raw power but a slightly mechanical swing. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

9.       Gareth Morgan

6-9-13  - 21.Gaereth Morgan, OF (Toronto HS): Has lots of power with still plenty of room to grow. Might challenge anyone else in the high school ranks for power potential, even if he’s a bit raw. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-13-13  -  28. Cincinnati Reds — Gareth Morgan, OF, North Toronto Collegiate (ON) - The 2014 prep class is full of big time power bats and Morgan, a 6’-4”, 210 pound right-hander, has as much of it as anyone else on this list. He is more raw than the players listed above and he has had mixed results when he has faced elite competition. All of the tools are there, however, including excellent bat speed and a good approach, he just needs to refine it. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

10.   Alex Verdugo

7-24-13  -  Alex Verdugo, of/lhp, Sahuaro, Tucson, Ariz./Chi Town Cream - The athletic 6-foot-1, 190-pound Verdugo is a promising two-way talent. He has a solid build with sloped shoulders and a strong lower half. On the mound, Verdugo has a quick, loose-and-easy arm action and smooth delivery. His fastball sits 88-91 mph and touches 93 with armside run and some sink from a high three-quarter slot (although he will vary his arm slot depending on the hand of the hitter). His mid-70s breaking ball can show sharp 1-7 tilt at its best and flashes average. The Arizona State commit compliments with a 79-80 mph changeup. At the plate, Verdugo has an open stance and uses a toe tap. He has a feel for the barrel and generates pull-side power. Verdugo has average to a tick above straight-line speed and an above-average arm from the outfield. Verdugo is young for the class and will turn 18 right before the draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

8-9-13 - Clint Longenecker ‏@Clint_BA  - Alex Verdugo (Ariz) continues to impress in many facets of game. Strong throw from right field to hose runner at the plate

8-10-13 - New Balance Area Code games - For the Reds, Alex Verdugo (AZ) has established himself as one of the best players on both sides of the ball. The left-hander pitched very well on day one, showing great stuff, but has put on a show at the plate all week. He rocketed a ball that was 99 MPH off the bat back up the middle in one at bat today. He has a good swing from the left side and has hit the ball hard all week. http://prospectinsider.com/view/2013-area-codes:-day-4-notes/

8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 9. Alex Verdugo, lhp/of, Sahuaro, Tucson, Ariz./Chi Town Cream - One of the top two-way players in the class, Verdugo had a tremendous showing in Area Codes with the bat and on the mound. He took an impressive batting practice, hit well in games and showed above-average speed. With bat speed, power and a patient approach, Verdugo has feel to hit and good bat control. He was one of the most impressive pitchers of the event with a control of an 89-92 mph fastball that touched 93 with movement. The Arizona State commit commanded his curveball, a plus offering with 12-to-6 tilt and depth at its best. He will vary the shape of the offering depending upon the hitter and mixed in a low-80s changeup. His delivery and arm action are free and easy.  Verdugo struck out eight against one walk in his four innings and is young for the class. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

8-25-13 - Nathan Rode ‏@NathanRode  - I'm know I'm really going out on a limb, but I love watching Alex Verdugo play. Such a dynamic player on both sides of the ball.

9-21-13 –  Alex Verdugo came out swinging in his first at-bat, showing his strength and excellent bat speed by hitting a triple to the right-centerfield gap on his first swing of the tournament. A lefthanded hitter and pitcher, Verdugo squared up the ball his next two at-bats with deep fly outs outs to left field. On his last trip to the plate, in the bottom of the sixth, the left fielder was positioned nearly on the warning track, clearly aware of Verdugo's power and why he is ranked as the 20th best prospect in the 2014 class. .  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9017

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 34. Alex Verdugo, lhp/of, Sahuaro HS, Tucson, Ariz.: He’s a legitimate prospect both ways thanks to his feel for hitting, and a smooth delivery with a fastball up to 93 mph on the mound. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 10. Alex Verdugo, OF/LHP, Texas Scout Team Yankees (Sahuaro High, Tucson, Ariz.) -  Scouts are split on his future because he has a sweet left-handed swing and a strong arm. http://ht.ly/qi5No

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Alex Verdugo (2014 LHP/OF, Texas Scout Team Yankees) - The two-way prospect out has scouts split on whether his future lies on the mound or in the outfield. What is certain is that his curveball is a weapon, and he used it with devastating effect in his start against the Dirtbags. His matchup against one of the top left handed hitting prospects in the class (Braxton Davidson) was must-see for crosscheckers. In that matchup Verdugo buckled Davidson's knees with his deep 12-6 hammer, striking him out with it in their second encounter after starting him off with it to begin their first with impressive results. His fastball sat 88-92 as per usual, and a second inning hiccup aside, commanded it well for two of his three innings. Just as importantly, Verdugo bounced back from his spell of wildness in the second inning when his front shoulder began opening early, he managed to make the adjustment and resumed hitting his spots in the third inning, striking out the side on 10 pitches. He also helped himself out a lot in the minds of scouts when he buckled down and struck out Davidson with the bases loaded after a two-out error extended what had been a rough second inning. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 12 Alex Verdugo OF/LHP L/L 6-0 200 Sahuaro, Tucson, Ariz. Arizona State http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

11-22-13 - Alex Verdugo, OF/LHP Sahuaro High School, 2013 WWBA Championships (via Baseball Instinct) – Alex Verdugo is a 6'1", 190 LB left handed pitcher and outfielder. He is arguably the best two-way player available in this draft along with Michael Gettys. I'm not sure at this point where he should play. Similar to Trey Ball last year, he has high-end tools both on the mound and in the outfield. His speed is just average, so I don't see him sticking in centerfield long term. His thick legs look more like the legs of a pitcher than an up the middle talent. Once he matures he'll likely be a right fielder so the bat has to be very good, but the bat is that good. He can hit the ball with authority from line to line. He has a strong build but doesn't have a lot of physical projection remaining. If I had to choose, I'd put him in the outfield but athletic lefties with three pitches don't come along that often. If he sits in the low 90's regularly and touches higher, he may end up on the mound. However the spring works out for him, he has the talent to be drafted in the late first to early second round. If he slides or doesn't sign, he is committed to Arizona State where he could be a star in the outfield and on the mound. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/11/22/5130714/2014-mlb-draft-profile-alex-verdugo-rf-lhp-tucson-az-high-school

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 22. Alex Verdugo, LHP/OF, Sahuaro HS (AZ) - One of the better two-way talents available in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-1” left-hander has a tough decision on his hands as he excels as both a hitter and pitcher. He can touch 93 mph with his fastball and also adds solid secondaries in a mid-70s curveball and an upper-70s change-up. He has great bat speed and shows raw power. Over 93 at bats as a junior, he hit .484 with seven home runs, stole 24 bases and drew 25 walks to just three strikeouts. On the mound, he struck out 130 over 65 innings. Committed to Arizona State. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  16- OF/LHP Alex Verdugo Sahuaro HS (Arizona State Commit) 5/15/96- Word is you are not getting Verdugo as a pitcher in this draft as he loves to hit. That being said, he is the best hitter in this draft at the HS level. He never has a cheap AB and certainly seems to be a student of the excellent CD by Steve Springer on Quality At Bats. He is more of a line drive guy at this point and that is fine because he has one of those qualities where he seems to catch the ball and spin it where he wants. On the mound, he has very good mechanics and works a low 90’s fastball and solid secondary pitches. (Angels @15) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

11.   Dylan Davis

Oregon State

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 37. Dylan Davis, of/rhp, Oregon State: Similar to J.D. (no relation) with power both ways, he’s more advanced as a hitter and has more velocity on the mound. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

11-20-13 - We continue the countdown today with number 68, Oregon State RHP/outfielder Dylan Davis. In His sophomore campaign with the Beavers, Davis continued to prove that his freshman season was no fluke. An All-Pac-12 First Team selection, the Beaver outfielder played in 63 games during the 2013 season, starting in 62 of them. The 6’0” sophomore led the team with a .335 average and his 22 doubles, 61 RBI and 86 hits were good enough for first in the Pac-12. The talented two-way player was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Corvallis Regional. The Redmond, WA native attended Redmond High School where he was named All-League and All-State after his senior season. Davis not only showed promise at the plate but also proved to be a threat on the mound. Davis went 7-3 for Redmond while posting a 3.92 ERA and striking out 61 batters in 50 IP. At the plate, Davis batted .420 with 10 homeruns and 35 RBI. http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2013/11/19/cbd-top-100-countdown-68-dylan-davis-oregon-state/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  47- OF/RHP Dylan Davis Oregon State 7/20/93- He hasn’t pitched a lot but when he threw on the Cape last summer scouts definitely took note. He has a powerful arm that has not been used a lot and touched 97 with plenty of natural sink. But, he is a hitter first and has a ton of power and works counts to his advantage. He will go in this draft as an OF but I will be interested to see how much he is used on the mound at Oregon State this season. (Out of first round Astros selection) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

12.   Kel Johnson

6-9-13  -  18.Kel Johnson, 1B (Georgia HS): One of the best power bats in the high school ranks. Remains to be seen if he ends up at 1st base, or if he can play a solid outfield. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-13-13  -  12. San Diego Padres — Kel Johnson, OF, Home School (GA) - A 6’-4”, 210 pound right-hander who has been a fixture on Perfect Game tournaments, Johnson is home schooled by his parents and plays for the East Cobb Braves — one of the premiere youth baseball operations in the country. Power would be his best tool right now as he generates a ton of it with his string wrists and bat speed. A player who you come to watch hit batting practice. Committed to Georgia Tech. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

7-2-13  - 2014 Top 100 High School Prospects -  6. Kel Johnson- OF-1B, Palmetto (GA) - Hits everything hard. Had a home run at TOS and a three home run day a couple days ago at a Perfect Game event http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-22-13 - Perfect Game USA ‏@PerfectGameUSA  - 2014 Kel Johnson just drilled a HR to put the East Cobb Braves on top. Ball comes off his bat different. Wow! #PGTourney

7-24-13  -  Kel Johnson, of/1b, Homeschooled, Palmetto, Ga./FTB Mizuno - Johnson showed toughness and determination battling through a stomach virus during TOS. He has strength throughout his large 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame. The Georgia Tech commit’s calling card is his bat. Johnson, who has a loud setup with lots of moving parts and unique timing mechanisms for his hands and front leg, has good bat speed with a swing path conducive to power—especially to his pull side. He has above-average raw power and can put on a show in batting practice. The righthanded hitter is faster than quick and has enough arm and speed to handle an outfield corner. Johnson is homeschooled, a rarity for potential pro prospects. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 7. Kel Johnson – OF, Palmetto (GA) HS - Big time power bat. Has the most raw power of any player I’ve seen in the 2014 class. Has been raking all summer for East Cobb. http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-11-13 - Player:  Kel Johnson   Primary Position:  OF  Secondary Position(s):  1B  Height/Weight:  6’4/215  Bats/Throws:  R/R Date of Birth:  7/8/1995  Home Town:  Palmetto, GA  School:  Home School  Travel Team(s):  East Cobb Braves  Class of:  2014  Committed To:  Georgia Tech = Scouting Notes: - 2013 Tournament of Stars notes from Don Olsen: - Kel is a tall proportional lean athletic frame with strength in the wrists and forearms.  He shows some projection, could gain another 20-25 pounds in a Jayson Werth type mold.  Defensively, he has a good deal of arm strength and carries, routinely ropes it.  Good first step and reacts well off the ball, logically a RF down the line.  Bat stands out, extremely loud contact with a ton of backspin that leads to a great deal of raw power, easily in the plus grade and could rise higher. He displays outstanding pull power, and power to all fields.   In game approach, works with good pitch recognition and turns on good velocity with line drive power, pulls mistakes with power.  Sometimes stretches the zone, but shows the ability to drive the RCF gap, should be at least average contact, maybe above average with maturation. Speed should be at least average, good instinctive player on the bags, moves well, good double potential.  Kel has across the board average to above average tools with a chance to plus, maybe higher power. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/11/2014-mlb-draft-profile-kel-johnson/

On the diamond, he has plus speed (6.65/60), a plus arm (97 mph from the outfield) and has developed into a solid hitter, and his size suggests more power will come. Over 83 at-bats as a junior, he hit .457 with 12 doubles, three triples and six home runs. One of the more exciting players available with a ton of upside but football may get in the way. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  38- OF Monte Harrison Lee’s Summit West HS (Nebraska commit for football and baseball) 8/10/95- The similarities between Monte Harrison and the last Kansas City area kid to go in the first round out of HS are endless. Both of them are talented athletes who excel in 3 sports and both have the type of arms that could also gain attention on the mound. Both were committed to Nebraska for football and they also both had early birthdays for their class. Harrison has plenty of upside with a cannon for an arm in the OF and as he continues to be educated on how to be a baseball player his ceiling is certainly high.  He is no different than most Midwest hitters though as his hit tool needs serious refinement and reps against quality arms. He has a tendency to be a bit over aggressive on the diamond and I could see where some would see a potential diva type but one would hope that as he ages he will continue to mature as a person too. (Out of first round- Yankees selection) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

15.   Trenton Kemp

7-24-13  -  Trenton Kemp, of, Buchanan, Clovis, Calif. - Although Kemp’s TOS was truncated because of a minor injury, his talent warrants inclusion on this list. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Kemp has a compact, muscular and athletic build. Kemp, who did not play baseball as a sophomore to concentrate on football, has explosive athletic ability. A wide receiver that drew interest from a few Pac-12 Conference schools, Kemp has plus speed. From a deep hand load, Kemp has very quick hands, explosive bat speed and some present power. The Fresno State commit should improve his ability to hit in games after time away from the diamond. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

Trenton Kemp, CF, Buchanan HS (CA) - 6'2/185, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.68, Fresno State commit - Quick Take: Kemp is long-limbed, strong and projectable, with a chance for average raw power and is a plus to plus-plus runner that can stick in center field. He would be higher based on those tools but he's still a little raw hitting in games and could move up or down this list a good bit this spring. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-31-13 – Area Code Games - Stone Garrett (CF) 6’2″ 195 (R/R); 2014 Interesting athlete w/lean, muscular build. Baby face; excellent projection and like where body is headed. EZ stroke in BP w/gaps, present pull power. Agg. approach in game mode; crude but competes. Slow out the gate but will show 6run (better 60-yard runner; 6.4). Plus range in OF and still developing reads and routes. 5arm w/on-line carry. Toolsy player w/athletic upside; quality make up.  http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/31/area-code-notes/

9-1-13 – Petco Game - Stone Garrett (OF) (R/R) 6’2″ 190; Grad: 2014 Sugar Land, TX Intriguing athlete with loose, muscular build. Quick bat w/flat bat plane through hitting zone. Shows pull-side power in BP and at his best when living in the gaps in game mode. AA  speed and a better runner underway. Relies on athleticism in OF and still learning reads/routes. Avg. arm. Toolsy player with athletic upside. Quality make-up should allow him to  reach his potential. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/09/01/aflac-game-wrap-up-better-late-than-never/

11-19-13 - Adding to their lineup power, the Owls of Rice University signed Stone Garrett a potential five-tool prospect on Wednesday, Nov. 13, National Signing Day (Early Signing Period). “They’ve been to the College World Series regularly, and it’s a great program with a great coach,” Garrett said. Garrett is a comprehensive complete competitor with a stout, solid frame, tremendous arm strength and speed. Garrett sets himself apart from other players at the plate with a small, straight swing track to the ball and exceptional bat speed that permits him to consistently hit the ball solid. He has a flair for clutch at-bats when the game is on the line, and has electrifying power prospective to his pull-side. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/18/rice-owls-sign-stone-garrett/

20.   Austin Cousino

6-9-13 -  26. Austin Cousino, OF (Kentucky): One of the more toolsy college outfielders available in 2014. Will need to make more consistent contact to warrant an early-round pick though. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-10-13 - Austin Cousino, OF, Kentucky - The 2013 season was somewhat disappointing for Cousino, but the first round tools are there.  He can run and provides exceptional defense in center.  At the plate, he has a line drive swing and should develop into a top of the order bat at the next level.  http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/

7-17-13 –  Austin Cousino, CF, Kentucky - At just 5'10", 185 lbs, I thought this kid was going to slap the ball around but that was not the case at all.  He's one of these high energy, quick twitch athletes that generates good bat speed with quick hands through the zone.  He pulverized a double into the right-center field gap that could have easily went out had he gotten a little back spin on it.  He runs well and should have no problems sticking in CF. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/07/looking-ahead-to-the-2014-and-2015-mlb-draft-notes-from-the-collegiate-national-team-games/

Carl Chester, CF, Lake Brantley HS (FL) - 6'0/175, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.48, Miami commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Chester comes from the school that produced Mariners SS Nick Franklin and has another top round prospect for this year's draft, IF Tate Blackman, as one of the stronger teams in a completely loaded Orlando high school scene. Chester is a plus to plus-plus runner with great feel to hit in games and solid gap power. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

At 6’-0” and 170 pounds, he also shows some raw power in his swing and excellent bat speed. A quick-twitch athlete with a lot of upside. He stole 18 of 20 bases as a junior and struck out just 11 times over 110 plate appearances. 12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 44. Jon Littell, OF, Stillwater HS (OK) - There is a ton of power in the draft class and Littell is right at the top of the list. At 6′-4″ and 200 pounds, he ha a balanced swing that allows him to drive the ball to all fields with ease. he has excellent bat speed and a sound approach at the plate, as well. he has decent speed (6.82/60) and a good enough arm (92 mph from OF) to hold down a corner outfield spot at the next level. 26.   Jack Benninghoff

27.   Tanner English

10-18-13 – Matt Garroich – OF Tanner English at South Carolina is one of the remaining college hitters I haven't mentioned. He reminds me a little of Tyler Naquin a few years ago but Naquin was a better hitter at this point. English covers center field better and looks like he could be a 4th outfielder type of guy. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/10/18/4851030/2014-mlb-draft-atlantic-region-college-discussion

28.   Mason Robbins

29.   Mike Papi

6-9-13 -  25. Mike Papi, OF (Virginia): Strong on base skills and hit tool, though he needs to hit for more power to be a regular at a corner position. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-13-13  -  25. Pittsburgh Pirates — Mike Papi, OF, Virginia - The 6’-3”, 200 pound left-hander wasn’t even a starter until the 11th game of the season. Since then, he has been one of the best hitters in college, including leading the nation in OBP. Over 53 games, he hit .393 with 15 doubles, six home runs, 55 RBI and drew 43 walks to just 22 strikeouts for a .527 OBP/.625 SLG. With an advanced approach at the plate, and the size that suggests more power will come, Papi could erupt next season. He can also flash the leather in the outfield. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

6-13-13 - Mike Papi, OF, University of Virginia: North Carolina's Colin Moran made a late push to be the #1-overall draft pick in 2013. Young for his level, he challenged Kris Bryant as the top college bat in the draft. Mike Papi vs. Trea Turner could have a similar situation in 2014. Though Turner is widely acknowledged as the best college bat in the draft right now, Papi had a uniformly better season this year. Turner's .378/.460/.571 sophomore campaign pales to Papi's .390/.524/.634. And unlike Bryant/Moran, who plied their trade on opposite coasts, Papi and Turner play in the same ACC. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/6/28/4450674/the-way-too-early-2014-tcb-astros-draft-board

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 47. Mike Papi, OF, Virginia - The 6’-3”, 200-pound left-hander wasn’t even a starter until the 11th game of the season. From that point on, he was one of the best hitters in college and led the nation in OBP. Over 55 games, he hit .381/.517/.619 with 15 doubles, seven home runs and drew an impressive 45 walks to just 25 strikeouts. A very good athlete, he should be able to stick at a corner outfield position. He has a tough act to follow as a junior. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

6-10-13   -  Todd Gold‏@TGold_PG - Just landed in Mn for Jr Natl & #PGNational can't wait for tomorrow. My predicted breakouts: 2015 OF Tyler Williams & 2014 OF Denz'l Chapman

6-17-13 - Denz'l Chapman is accustomed to the spotlight. He remembers a moment in Las Vegas, competing for a team from his hometown of Gardena, Calif., against players from all over the country, with the game on the line.  In a youth bowling tournament.

"That's a family thing, we love to (go bowling)," said Chapman, who learned the game from his father. "I think I went out there with something like a 200 average."

Chapman's team didn't win that day -- "We came in like third or fourth" he says -- but it might be just as well. http://web.usabaseball.com/article.jsp?ymd=20130617&content_id=50904802&vkey=news_usab

36.   Ben Moore

6-20-13  Ben Moore – Alabama -  from Don Olson on 6/18/2013 - Ben has a proportional athletic build with ideal muscular development who throws off a bit of BJ Surhoff. He shows good range and first step, tracks the ball well off the bat.  He flashes more accuracy than arm strength, but enough to profile at either corner.  He has the ideal path with a touch of lift in it, gets a good amount of backspin and can drive it too all fields at 5 O’ clock.  He has more of pull power swing in game; it should round out with maturation.  Contact should be at least average down the road.  High follow into next spring; he has the tools that you cannot teach.

37.   Evan Dougherty

5-31-13 - Evan Dougherty, a highly regarded prospect in the class of 2014 who just completed his junior year at academic and baseball powerhouse Bishop Verot High School here in Fort Myers, spent Saturday on the fields of the former Boston Red Sox Player Development 5-Plex performing at this year's PG National Academic Showcase; he was at this event a year ago. He is exactly the kind of player this showcase attracts -- he carries a 3.9 GPA at Bishop Verot and scored a 1880 on his SAT, a score that is higher than 87 percent of all the test-takers nationwide. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8561

6-22-13  -  Player:  Tyler Spoon   Position:  OF   School:  Arkansas    Height/Weight:  5’11/190   Bats/Throws:  R/R   2014 Class:  College RS Sophomore Scouting Report: - from Don Olsen on 6/18/2013 - Tyler has a compact and lean athletic build in the Bobby Higginson type mold, with good development in the hips and upper quads.  At the plate, he has a wide stance.  Tyler shows a quite lower half, good hip rotation, simple swing.  High hands, no trigger, little longer path with the compact path and hand speed makes it a non-issue.  He shows a good patient approach at the plate.  Path is line drive, good bat head control and balance, finds the barrel and routinely squares up.  Sound contact hitter with spray gap power.  He does show good pull power and with maturation it could an average to above average tool, solid hit tool.  Defensively, he tracks the ball off the bat, decent range, and above average arm strength with carry to profile at either corner position down the road. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/20/2014-mlb-draft-profile-tyler-spoon/

40.   Jake Fincher -

6-26-13  -  Player:  Jake Fincher   Position:  OF   School:  NC State  Height/Weight:  6’0/173   Bats/Throws:  R/R   2014 Class:  College Junior   Scouting Report: - from Don Olsen on 6/18/2013 = Jake has a medium athletic lean build.  Patient hitter and very selective, impressive strike zone awareness and pitch recognition.  Keeps his weight back and fights offerings to ride with the pitch when caught off.  Spray contact that can drive the pitch as well, more of a gap power type hitter.  Aggressive on the path, quick first step, caught 3.1 on steal to 2nd base, overall very dangerous on the paths.  Range and glove are solid, arm is good enough.  Jake has the defensive game to transition to CF, but isolated to LF if forced on the corner. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/25/2014-mlb-draft-profile-jake-fincher/

41.   Brandon Elmy

Solid arm and glove, good amount of coverage, likely to stick in a corner, more of LF, but borderline arm strength could improve a touch into RF.  If he fills out, the bat could be potent enough to profile at 1B under the right environment. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/07/01/2014-mlb-draft-profile-brandon-elmy/

43.   Ryan Hoskins

7-17-13 - Rhys Hoskins (Sacramento State) - Outfielder, Falmouth Commodores - .342 BA, 27 R, 24 RBI, 4 HR, 2 SB -  Hoskins continues to impress at the plate. He batted .476 with five RBIs this past week, and continues to stick around the top of all major batting categories. He has maintained his league lead in runs, regained the league lead in RBIs, and is in the top 10 in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Falmouth struggled this week, but Hoskins did not. The Commodores hope their offensive leader can rally the troops and lead the team back into the hunt for the division crown. Regardless of his team’s performance, Hoskins' play has virtually guaranteed that his name will be given consideration when it comes time to select an MVP. http://capecodbaseball.org/news/league/index.html?article_id=1565

7-24-13  -  Monte Harrison, of, Lee’s Summit West (Mo.)/Marucci Elite - The muscular 6-foot-3, 200-pound Harrison is a physical specimen and one of the best athletes in the class. The three-sport standout—who had scholarship offers from Arkansas, Oregon and Ohio State—recently committed to Nebraska as one of the top wide receiver recruits in the country. He has a plus arm that is one of the best in the class. Harrison produces plus run times with a powerful running style, which could make him a strong defender. He shows balance and bat speed in batting practice and should improve his feel to hit with more game reps. His natural strength portends future power. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

49.   Quinn Brody

7-24-13  -  Quinn Brodey, of/lhp, Loyola, Los Angeles/GBG Marucci - Brodey has the ability to excel both on the mound and at the plate. He is a physical presence with a wide back, slightly sloped shoulders and broad chest. Brodey has strength throughout his 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame with trim, muscular legs. He has an effortless, athletic delivery and gets over his front leg well, which allows him to get good downward plane. The Stanford commit, who throws from a three-quarter arm slot, gets natural cutting action from his smooth, clean arm action. He compliments an upper-80s fastball with two secondary offerings that flash average: a mid-70s breaking ball with 1-7 action and depth, and an upper-70s changeup with fade. Brodey has good control. He has a squared, balanced and upright stance and levered swing that produces pull-side power. Brodey has a feel for the barrel in games and plus speed. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

Jones, who is also a wide receiver on the football field, moves well laterally and is a long strider with plus straight-line speed. The Texas commit offers an interesting combination of hitting ability and power. He has some loft to his swing and has shown pull-side power. Jones has the athleticism to handle third or the outfield. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

8-10-13 - New Balance Area Code games - Jeren Kendall (WI) was the star of the show for the White Sox and has been impressive all week. He launched a ball to the wall in right field for a triple. The center fielder has shown off some of the best speed at the Area Codes this week. Kendall also showed some pop, yanking a few foul balls well into left field. http://prospectinsider.com/view/2013-area-codes:-day-4-notes/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  50-OF Jeren Kendall Hoiman HS (Vanderbilt Commit)- A late bloomer to pro scouts with tremendous upside, Kendall comes from a non-traditional baseball state but has all of the tools to slip into the first round. He is blessed with plus speed and has a very strong arm. He projects as a CF with his speed and his left-handed bat should make him intriguing as a future leadoff guy in the big leagues. 59.   Connor Welton

60.   Taylor Sparks

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 9. Taylor Sparks / RF / UC-Irvine — Sparks has a smooth swing and should product above-average power numbers, but he’ll have to show better plate discipline and more consistency if he’s going to justify going in the top 2-3 rounds in June. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

61.   Brandon Downes

10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 12. Brandon Downes / OF / Virginia — Downes has average to above-average tools across the board, though some scouts I’ve talked to are concerned about the swing and miss in his game and didn’t have the most productive of summers. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/10/top-14-for-14-college-hitters/

62.   Austin Murphy

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Austin Murphy (2014 OF, Mets Scout Team/Orlando Scorpions) - A look at his player profile page confirms that Murphy was completely off the radar entering the fall of his senior year. He made a huge first impression in Jupiter, showing a smooth lefthanded swing with good bat speed and the ability to whip the barrel through the hitting zone with authority. He not only showed the ability to use the whole ballpark, he runs very well, suggesting that he can be an asset defensively in the outfield. As a late pickup to a loaded organization that plays together year-round, he served in an extra hitter/DH type of role in Jupiter. He will be an interesting prospect to follow this spring, as he has gone from being off the radar to one of the more intriguing position prospects in northern Florida. Murphy hit an attention grabbing .417/.533/.583 in his PG debut with a 43-percent line drive rate. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 77 Austin Murphy OF L/L 6-2* 210 Episcopal HS, Jacksonville Auburn http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

63.   Jamal Howard

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Jamal Howard (2014 OF, Texas Sun Devils) - It's difficult for a player with Howard's chiseled middle linebacker physique to slip through the cracks, but having only played in a couple of prior national tournaments and making his big stage debut at the East Coast Pro Showcase in August, Howard was still a lesser known commodity to most of the industry. One scout commented that the Alabama commit looks like he could suit up for Nick Saban's national powerhouse football team next fall. While he will eventually have to reign in his hyper aggressive approach, he showed that he wasn't afraid to use his quality bat speed. He stole the spotlight on Sunday morning's first set of games, with several pitchers lighting up radar guns around the complex, Howard crushed a walk-off grand slam to push the Sun Devils to victory over the Ontario Blue Jays. His run and throw tools in the outfield are also quite solid, giving him more than just a high upside bat to dream on. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

64.   Todd Issacs

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Todd Isaacs (2014 OF, Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team) - Isaacs stood out on an all-prospect team that was highlighted by one of the highest ceiling players in the class (Jacob Gatewood). He slashed line drives and hard ground balls evenly between the pullside, opposite field and up the middle. His impressive spray chart from his .500/.533/.500 showing is impressive in it's even distribution, even putting down perfect bunts for hits down each baseline. His carrying tool is his speed and as a present burner he should be able to chew up acres of real estate centerfield. His slash and run skillset is a good fit for his center field profile and his solid arm strength is an added bonus there.  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157
