LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets had their six-game winning streak snapped in a 5-3 loss to the Erie SeaWolves, on Sunday. The B-Mets went 1-for-16 with runners on base and 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. However, Brian Burgamy went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Angel Cuan allowed four runs (three earned) in six innings.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Bowman takes the mound for the 12th time this season and the first against Richmond. The Chevy Chase, Maryland native picked up his first win since April 26 his last time out as Binghamton took down the Akron RubberDucks, 12-6, on Wednesday, June 11. Bowman gave up two runs in seven innings and struck out seven in the win. Bowman was drafted by the Mets in the 12th round of the 2012 draft.
RICHMOND STARTER: LHP Ty Blach makes his 13th start of the season and first against Binghamton. The southpaw is coming off a win in his last outing against Trenton on Tuesday, June 10. Blach gave up just one run in five innings to pick up his first win since May 11. The Denver, Colorado native has the sixth lowest ERA in the Eastern League. The Creighton University product was drafted by San Francisco in the 5th round of the 2012 draft.
BURGAMY GETS RECOGNIZED: B-Mets infielder Brian Burgamy was named Eastern League Player of the Week for the stretch of games from 6/9 - 6/15. The switch-hitter hit .500 (12-for-24) with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in that time. It includes a seven RBI performance at Akron on June 11. Burgamy also has eight hits in his last ten at bats.
HELLO, FRIENDS: Binghamton’s next three series are against the three of the four teams it has not seen this season. Richmond, Bowie and Reading are a combined twelve games above .500. Trenton is the only team they will have not played after the stretch. They match up for the first time on June 17.
WINNING THE WEST: After the B-Mets took two of three against the Erie SeaWolves over the weekend, the team is 18-11 against Western Division opponents this season. That includes a 13-5 mark at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton is in the midst of four straight series against opponents from the other side of the standings.
SERENITY NOW: Tonight’s game is a matchup of two of the best fielding teams in the Eastern League. Binghamton and Richmond have each made 47 errors, tied for the fewest in the Eastern League.
POWERING THROUGH: Dustin Lawley’s solo home run in the second inning of Sunday’s loss to Erie continued a long ball hot streak for Binghamton. The team has hit one out of the park in eight of the last eleven games. The team has 16 home runs during that stretch. They are now fourth in the league in that category with 54, four behind first place Bowie.
THEY GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND: Binghamton catchers have thrown out 28% of potential base stealers this season, but they face their biggest challenge yet with Richmond. The Flying Squirrels have stolen 105 bags in 2014, thirty better than anyone else in the league. Even more, they've been caught just 19 times.
WORKING THE MOUND: Binghamton is among the best in the league in most pitching categories. The team is tied for second in WHIP at 1.31, second in strikeouts, have issued the third fewest number of walks.

Curious why Bowman was a 12th rounder in 2012 and is a level above Matz. I guess it is due to Matz more limited pitching competitively, with Bowman out of college.

Correct. College Arms generally move much faster than HS ones.....plus Matz was being babied the past 2 years because of his extensively long recovery from Tommy John Surgery
