Lately the Mets are so frustrating and listless that many of us find ourselves looking for our entertainment
elsewhere. However, for those folks whose allegiance runs the course of their lifetime it's part of our
DNA. No matter how hard you try, it's always there, bubbling up to the surface.
For example, I tried going into Netflix to pick out some movies to fill the hours I normally devote to the
Mets games. I looked at my queue and found one that right away seemed the mantra of Mets fans
everywhere, "Same Time, Next Year".
Next there was the one about the Wilpons and the rest of the team owners -- "Pretty Little Liars".
And the Sandy Alderson story, "To Have and Have Not".
Frank Sinatra’s brilliant tale of heroin addiction had a title that unfortunately made me think of both Matt
Harvey and Juan Lagares, “The Man With The Golden Arm”.
Lucas Duda popped into my head for "The Incredible Hulk".
Claude Rains' "The Invisible Man" made me focus on Wilmer Flores' role on the Mets.
No! This isn't helping at all. Maybe I need music instead. I turned on my blues channel on Pandora to
help me hear about people more miserable than Mets fans, but it was more of the same.
First was the classic, "Steady Rollin' Man" by Robert Johnson and it made me think about Daniel Murphy
and how he just keeps producing while seemingly all around him are failing.
Then the humorous "Built for Comfort, Not for Speed" made me remember the infamous belly-jiggle GIF of happy Bartolo Colon.
David Wright must be thinking Albert King was prescient when he sang, "Born Under a Bad Sign" with
the haunting refrain, "If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have no luck at all."
No, blues isn’t the answer either. How about some pop music instead?
One hit wonder Robbie Dupree came on with “Steal Away” and that reminded me that Eric Young, Jr.
returned to the Mets lineup last night.
No, something more hard edged...how about some Aerosmith? Not that too! The anthem of the Mets hitting philosophy, “Walk this Way” was followed by the Jacob de Grom
reminder, “Dude Looks Like a Lady”
That’s it. I need mindless diversion. I flip on the TV and they announcing starting next would be a TV
series based on a movie about Terry Collins’ leadership, “Clueless.”
