LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets exploded for seven runs in the first three innings and cruised to an 11-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. Travis Taijeron smashed two home runs, scored three times and tallied four RBI. T.J. Rivera tied a franchise record with three doubles. Cory Mazzoni made his first Double-A start of the season and got the win in five innings of three run ball. Randy Fontanez shut down the Sea Dogs with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The B-Mets have collected 15 hits or more in consecutive games for the first time since August 2011.
BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME 1: LHP Angel Cuan makes his seventh start of the season and second against Portland. The southpaw has missed the last 19 games while on the disabled list. Cuan took the loss in his last outing, giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings in a 5-3 Binghamton defeat to the Erie SeaWolves on June 15. The Panamanian native was roughed up in four innings the first time against , giving up a season-high12 hits and a season-high eight runs in an 8-2 loss on May 19. Cuan was singed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on September 3, 2007.
PORTLAND STARTER, GAME 1: RHP Mike Augliera toes the rubber for the 17th time this season and his second against the B-Mets. The former Binghamton University Bearcat has not won a game since May 18. That includes allowing six runs on 11 hits in four innings in his most recent outing, an 8-0 loss to the Trenton Thunder on Thursday, July 10. Augliera was tagged with the hard-luck loss in his only other start at NYSEG Stadium. He went seven innings and allowed just two earned runs in a 5-1 Binghamton win on May 2. The righty was taken by Boston in the fifth round of the 2012 draft.
BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME 2: RHP Gabriel Ynoa takes the hill for the second time with Binghamton. The 21-year-old didn’t factor in the decision his first time out. Ynoa went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits in a game the B-Mets lost, 9-6 in 16 innings on Friday, July 4. Ynoa started the season with St. Lucie (High-A) and didn't lose in his final nine starts. The La Vega, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Mets as a free agent in 2009.
PORTLAND STARTER, GAME 2: RHP Mike McCarthy is on the mound for the 18th time this season and his 11th start. The righty has won his last two outings, including pitching a shutout in five innings in a 4-0 Sea Dog win on Saturday, July 5. In three other starts against the B-Mets, McCarthy’s allowed four earned runs in 17.1 innings and has 14 strikeouts. The Cal State-Bakersfield product was drafted by Boston in the 14th round of the 2011 draft.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Wednesday is the fourth doubleheader between Binghamton and Portland in 2014. The B-Mets are 0-1-2 in those games. It’s Binghamton’s second twin bill of the home stand and ninth of the season.
HOW ‘BOUT ANOTHER: B-Mets INF Dilson Herrera extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single in the first inning of Binghamton’s win on Monday. Herrera is 16-for-47 during the stretch that began on June 27. It’s the sixth time this season a Binghamton player has tallied a double-digit hit streak. Matt Reynolds was the last one to accomplish the feat with an 11 game streak form May 16 - 24.
INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: Binghamton INF T.J. Rivera tied a franchise record with three doubles in Monday night’s win over Portland. The feat was also accomplished by former B-Met Rhyne Hughes on July 28, 2013 against Trenton. Rivera has seven hits in his last nine at-bats.
