July 13th 2014 -- Mets 9, Marlins 1
Jacob deGrom won his second straight decision and the Mets close the first half with a sweep of the upstart Marlins Sunday afternoon with a 9-1 win at Citi Field. deGrom was in complete control the whole way and if it wasn’t for a double lost in the sun by Eric Campbell, Marcell Ozuna’s RBI infield hit to short never would have brought home the Marlins only run. The Mets pounded out 14 hits on the day. Curtis Granderson led the way going 3 for 4 with an RBI, David Wright had two doubles and 2 RBI. Juan Lagares and Lucas Duda each had 2 hits and 2 RBI apiece. deGrom got in on the act as he notched this first major league RBI with an single in the 4th putting the Mets in front for good. deGrom went 7 allowing 5 hits the 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and struck out 8. Brad Hand started for the Marlins yielding 3 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings taking the loss. deGrom improves to 3-5 on the year. Jeurys Familia and Buddy Carlyle pitched the 8th and 9th. The Mets enter the all-star break with an 8-2 home stand. They find themselves at 45-50 and 25-23 at home at Citi Field. So, it’s the all-star break, Daniel Murphy is the Mets representative Tuesday night in Minnesota. The Mets are back in action on Friday in San Diego.
