Friday night in San Diego, Travis d’Arnaud hit a 2 out RBI
single in the top of the 9th inning the Mets beat the Padres
5-4. d’Arnaud had a huge night going 3
for 5 with 2 RBI driving in the Mets first run in the 3 run top of the first. A
bloop single by Juan Lagares scored the other two. Kirk Nieuwenhuis brought in
the Mets 4th run on an RBI grounder in the 3rd. Bartolo
Colon looked to be cruising along with a 4-0 lead, retiring 12 of the first 13
batters to face him. But in the 5th the Padres scored 4 times with
RBI singles by Chris Nelson, Alexi Amarista and a 2 run single by Chase
Headley. Once again the Met bullpen came
up big. Dana Eveland threw 2 scoreless innings, Jeurys Familia pitched a
scoreless 8th and Jenrry Mejia pitched the 9th for this 11th
save. Familia gets the win he improves
to 2-3. Colon went 5 innings, he allowed
5 hits, the 4 earned runs he walked 1 and struck out 6. Joaquin Benoit takes
the loss for San Diego. Curtis Granderson also had a terrific night going 2 for
4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. The Mets have now won 8 of their last 9
and are now 46-50 on the season and 21-27 on the road. Saturday night it’s game 2 of the 3 game set.

Tyson Ross (7-10 2.85) goes for the Padres.
