Tuesday night at Turner Field, the Braves scored 3 times in
the bottom of the 4th inning they go on to beat the Mets 5-4. The Mets
have now dropped five out of six on this road trip. The Mets took a 2-1 lead in
the 3rd inning off Mike Minor on a solo home run by Curtis
Granderson, his 12th on the year. The Braves tied the game in the bottom
of the 3rd on an RBI double by Freddie Freeman. In the bottom of the
4th The Braves scored three off Daisuke Matsuzaka. Mike Minor
singled to make it 3-2, then Andrelton Simmons singled home Minor and B.J.
Upton to make it 5-2 Braves. In the 5th
Daniel Murphy made it a 1 run game when he hit a 2 run homer, his 7th
on the year knocking Minor out of the box. The Braves bullpen slammed the door
going 4 2/3 of scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit while striking out 8. Shae
Simmons got the win he’s now 1-0. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the 9th
for this 26th save. Matsuzaka
went 5 innings he allowed 7 hits 5 runs (all earned) he walked 3 and struck out
5. He falls to 3-3. Carlos Torres
pitched 3 hitless innings in relief striking out 4 keeping the Mets in the
game. Granderson, Eric Campbell and Juan Lagares each had 2 hits apiece. Travis
d’Arnaud singled in the 8th extending his hit streak to 7
games. With loss the Mets fall 10 games
under .500 for the first time this year and are 9 games behind the Braves in
the NL east. They stand at 20-26 on the
road and 37-47 on the year. Wednesday night the Mets look to salvage the final
game of the series. Jacob deGrom (1-4 3.62), Julio Teheran (7-5 2.34) goes for
Atlanta.
