Wade LeBlanc struck out a season-high 11 and the Bees held on to a 7-6 victory over the Las Vegas 51s Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark in the first game back from the All-Star break. LeBlanc (7-2) left the game after six innings with four hits, one earned run and the 30th 10+ strikeout game in franchise history, while the Mets number one pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard (7-5) took the loss.
"Wade's been doing a good job," said Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson. "For the most part, our starting pitchers having been doing a good job. Some of them are throwing a few more pitches then they would like, but for the most part, when these guys are coming out of the game, their coming out with a lead or with the game within reach."
Salt Lake put up an early lead with three runs in the first. Luis Jimenez knocked a single with two runners on to push a run across followed by a two-out double by Tommy Field to add two more runs. J.B. Shuck continued the run into the second with a two-RBI single before the 51s retaliated with their first run in the fourth. Field smashed his fourth homer of the year over the right field wall to collect two more RBIs in the fifth and extended the Bees' lead before the 51s rallied for five runs in the eighth to pull within a run. Michael Kohn would eventually snag the save with one and one thirds innings pitched. Field led the Bees offense going two-for-four with four RBIs, while Shuck and Tony Campana each collected two hits. - team press release
