August 11th 2014 -- Mets 5, Phillies 3

Monday afternoon in Philadelphia, Anthony Recker snapped a 2 all tie in the top of the 7th inning with a long 3 run homer (4), the Mets beat the Phillies 5-3.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and went 7 strong innings for his 6th win. The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th off David Buchanan on an RBI single by David Wright. In the bottom of the inning Darin Ruf clubbed a long 2 run homer (2) to center field to make it 2-1.  In the 7th, Juan Lagares walked and then scored on a RBI double by Matt den Dekker. After a single by Wilmer Flores, Recker hit his bomb to deep left-center, his 4th on the year.  Niese went 7 allowing just 5 hits 2 runs (earned) walked 3 and struck out 6. Niese improves to 6-8. Buddy Carlyle got 2 outs in the 8th, Jeurrys Familia came on and got the last out of the 8th, but in the 9th with two outs walked Cody Ashe and allowed a pinch hit RBI double by Chase Ultey,  but held on to notch a 4 out save,  his 3rd save on the year. Buchanan takes the loss falling to 6-6.  With his RBI single in the 4th Wright extends his hitting streak to 10 straight games. Daniel Murphy had 2 hits for another multiple hit game.  The Mets take 3 of 4 on the road from the Phillies. The Mets stand at 57-62 overall and 29-35 on the road. Tuesday night the Mets are back home for a 6 game home stand.  It’s the first of 3 against the Nats. Doug Fister (11-3  2.49) goes for Washington, Rafael Montero (0-2  5.40) goes for the Mets.

The Dekker and Flores experiment has another day of positive results. Keep playing them, Terry!

Really sad to hear about Hefner. Hope there is a future recovery there.

What about Mateo's status?

dD had a wonderful game...

had a solid hit, was robbed of another one (again) and (I think) he walked also.

Looked like a natural up there.

I can hear scouting directors sending guys that work for him sending them to cover the Washington series

Just saw that bullet out by Dekker on replay of game. Dekker also did not strike out in 9 PA over 2 games, another hugely encouraging sign. Looks like a brand new man. For the better. Very cool.
