Saturday night at Citi Field, Daniel Murphy’s opposite field
double in the 7th broke up a perfect game bid by Jake Peavy. The Mets
go on to beat the Giants 4-2. It was
Peavy against Jacob deGrom. Both hurlers
had perfect games through 4. deGrom
walked Brandon Belt in the 5th. Then Pablo Sandoval hit a double in
the 7th to snap deGrom’s no-no attempt. In the 7th after Murphy’s double,
the Mets scored 4 times to take control of the game. David Wright followed
Murph with single. After Lucas Duda was
hit by a pitch, Travis d’Arnaud hit a sac-fly to make it 1-0. Juan Lagares
singled to make it 2-0. Wilmer Flores hit a double down the left field line
scoring a pair and it was 4-0. In the top of the 8th the Giants
broke through scoring a pair off deGrom on a deflected two run single by pinch
hitter Travis Ishikawa. deGrom left the
game after 7 1/3 allowing 4 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 1 and struck
out 7. Jeurys Familia retired the final
two of the 8th. Jenrry Mejia pitched the 9th for this 16th
save. deGrom now is over .500 standing
at 6-5 for the season. Peavy falls to 1-11 on the year. With the win the Mets
improve to 53-57 on the season and 28-25 at Citi Field. Sunday afternoon the
Mets look to take the series as Bartolo Colon (10-8 3.88) takes the mound.
