The Binghamton Mets got a two-RBI double from Jayce Boyd in the eighth inning to top the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 3-0, on Thursday at the Diamond. Matt Bowman tossed six innings and didn’t allow a run in the win. Binghamton earned its second series sweep of Richmond this season.
Binghamton finally broke a scoreless tie in the eighth against Jose Casilla. Brian Burgamy smacked a one-out double and Darrell Ceciliani was intentionally walked to put two on for Jacye Boyd. He hit a double to left-center field to score both runners and put the B-Mets on top, 2-0.
The B-Mets added an insurance run in the ninth off Phil McCormick. Wilfredo Tovar hit a one-out double. T.J. Rivera then singled to left field to score the runner and make the score 3-0.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Bowman struck out six batters, while Ty Blach sent down out five in seven scoreless innings. Hansel Robles (7-6) tossed two shutout frames and struck out four of the six batters he faced to pick up the win. Jose Casilla (4-1) gave up two runs in an inning of work and was saddled with the loss. Cody Satterwhite worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save of the year.
