Fort Myers 6 - St. Lucie 2

The Fort Myers Miracle ran wild and took advantage of sloppy baseball by the St. Lucie Mets en route to a 6-2 win on Thursday at Tradition Field.

The Miracle stole six bases which repeatedly put pressure on the Mets defense. The Mets committed four errors on the stolen base attempts.

Miracle starter Ethan Mildren limited the Mets to two solo home runs over six innings to earn the win.

Adam Brett Walker, the all-time single season home run leader for Fort Myers, clobbered his 23rd homer of the year late in the game to add an insurance run.

It was a wire-to-wire win for the Miracle. They scored two runs in the first off of Michael Fulmer. Levi Michael led off the game with a walk and stole second base. Byron Buxton followed with an infield hit to put runners at the corners.

Buxton then stole second and Cam Maron’s throw skipped away from L.J. Mazzilli into center field, allowing Michael to score from third. Later in the inning Dalton Hicks doubled home Buxton to make it 2-0.

The Miracle added another run in the third. Aderling Mejia led off with a single and stole second. This time Maron’s throw down to second sailed high and Mejia went to third. He came home on a two-out infield single by Michael to make it 3-0.

The Miracle made it 4-0 in the fourth. With two outs Niko Goodrum singled and stole second. It was the fifth steal of the night for the Miracle. Michael made the Mets pay when he singled to left to bring in Goodrum.

Cecchini’s solo homer in the fifth cut it to 4-1, and King made it 4-2 with his homer in the sixth.

However, the Miracle took the steam out of a possible comeback with a ugly run in the seventh. With Goodrum on first base, Buxton struck out for the second out of the inning. Goodrum stole second on the strikeout and went to third on another throw from Maron that sailed into center. Gilbert Gomez bobbled the ball in center field and the lapse allowed Goodrum to score to make it 5-2.

Walker’s homer made it 6-2 in the eighth.

Fulmer took the loss for the Mets. He gave up seven hits and four runs, three earned, in five innings. He struck out seven and walked only one.

Maron went 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Outside of Maron’s doubles and the homers by Cecchini and King, the only other hit for the Mets was a single by Jeff McNeil.

It was just the second win for the Miracle in eight games this season at Tradition Field. - team press release
