Binghamton 5 - Harrisburg 1



The Binghamton Mets used seven shutout innings from Steven Matz to top the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. Matz struck out five batters in the win. The team takes two out of three from Harrisburg and finishes the road trip 5-1.

Binghamton tallied the first run of the game in the third inning. Wilfredo Tovar led off with a double off of James Simmons. He moved to third on a ground out. Brandon Nimmo smacked a two-out triple to right-center field to make the score 1-0.

Another run crossed the plate for the road team in the fourth. Travis Taijeron doubled with one out. He came across the plate on a single by T.J. Rivera. A base knock from Xorge Carrillo put runners on the corners with one out. Tovar skied a fly ball to centerfield to bring home a runner and put the B-Mets on top, 3-0.

Matz (5-3) has not allowed an earned run in each of his last two outings. Simmons (2-3) gave up three runs in six frames and struck out eight. Randy Fontanez finished the game with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the year.
