The Binghamton Mets pounded out 17 hits in a 9-4 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Jayce Boyd went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win. The B-Mets broke a 4-4 tie with a four-run seventh inning.
Erie got on the board first in the second inning against Gabriel Ynoa. Corey Jones tallied one-out single and moved to second on a base-knock by Aaron Westlake. Craig Albernaz brought home one runner with a single to make the score 1-0.
Binghamton came right back in the bottom of the frame against Wilsen Palacios. Jayce Boyd led off with a ground rule double and moved to third on a groundout. Juan Centeno the grounded out to first base, but Boyd scored to tie the game at one.
The B-Mets took their first lead of the series in the third. Herrera doubled to start the inning. He advanced to third on a Darrell Ceciliani single and scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield off of Boyd to put the home team on top, 2-1.
For the third straight inning, the B-Mets got on the board in the fourth. Centeno doubled with one out and scored on a single from Wilfredo Tovar singled to bring the catcher home. Nimmo moved Tovar to third on a base knock. Herrera then skied a fly ball to centerfield to score the runner for the 4-1 Binghamton lead.
The SeaWolves rallied in the seventh. Westlake hit a solo home run to start the action. Jame Johnson came throught with a triple with one out. Devon Travis doubled to bring home a runner and knock Ynoa from the game. Dario Alvarez entered and surrendered a double to the first batter he faced, Dean Green. Travis crossed the plate on the play to tie the game at four.
The B-Mets broke out the bats in the bottom of the seventh against Slade Smith. Brian Burgamy singled and Ceciliani doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Boyd plated both runners with a single to give the advantage back to Binghamton. Boyd moved to third on a single by T.J. Rivera. A wild pitch made it second and third for Centeno. He tallied a base knock to score two more and make it an 8-4 ballgame.
Burgamy gave Binghamton some insurance in the eighth. He hit a 1-1 pitch off of Jose Valdez over the ball in right-center field to put the home team on top, 9-4.
Neither Ynoa nor Palacios factored into the decision. Each gave up four runs and struck out three. Alvarez (1-0) suffered a blown save, but struck out two in 1-1/3 innings in his Double-A debut. Smith (2-5) gave up four runs on six hits in the seventh, his only inning of work. Cody Satterwhite pitched a scoreless ninth to nail down the win for the B-Mets.
POSTGAME NOTES: The B-Mets scored 11 runs off of the Erie bullpen in the series…The B-Mets are end the night tied in the loss column and just one game behind Portland for first-place in the Eastern Division…That’s as close as the team has been since April 17. - new press release
