Mets Minor League Report: August 18, 2014.

Mets Minor League Player of the Day: Binghamton RF Travis Taijeron.

Honorable Mention: GCL Mets’ LHSP Kevin Canelon.

Omaha (69-60) humbles Las Vegas (72- 59) 9-5.

John Lannan (L, 2-2) did not help his cause: 4.0 IP, 8 R, 5 ER, 10 H, (2 HR) 2 BB, 2 K.
Erik Goeddel: 1.0 IP, R, H, 0 BB, K.
Ryan Reid: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.
Zack Thornton: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.
Chase Bradford: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB.

Anthony Seretelli: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 R.
Matt Reynolds: 2-5, 3 RBI.
Kevin Plawecki: 2-4.
Allan Dykstra: 2-4.
Cesar Puello: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 R. (Puello also had an outfield assist, throwing a runner out at the plate. It’s been too long since we have seen Cesar mentioned in the highlights.)

Binghamton (77-51) bashes Erie (63-65) 11-4.

Greg Peavey: (W, 10-3) 5.1 IP, 3 R, 8 H, (HR) BB, 5 K.
Chase Hutchingson: 2-2 IP, R, 2 H, BB3 K.
Dario Alvarez: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, 2 K. (Moving quickly up the ladder, the 25 yr. old Alvarez looked very sharp in 61.1 innings in Savannah, then only pitched in 4 games for St. Lucie where he did not give up a run, and now in Binghamton, he has not given up a run in his first 2 games. Four strikeouts and no walks in 2.1 innings.)

Jayce Boyd: 3-4, HR, BB, RBI, 3 R.
T.J. Rivera: 3-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R.
Travis Taijeron: 4-5, HR, 2B, 5 RBI, 2 R.  (Taijeron clearly has power, but he has never exhibited an ability to hit well for average.)

Charlotte (59-62) stuns St. Lucie (68-57) 6-3.

After scoring 6 in the 1st inning, Charlotte held off the Mets to claim a victory.

Kevin McGowan (L, 2-5) got roughed up, and then righted the boat, but an inning too late: 5.0 IP, 6 R, 9 H, (HR) 2 BB, K.
Tim Peterson: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB, 4 K.

Maikis De la Cruz supplied most of the Mets offense: 3-4, HR, 2B, RBI, 2 R.

Savannah (81-42) not scheduled.

Brooklyn (35-28) not scheduled.

Greeneville ( 28-28) crushes Kingsport (31-27) 12-3.

Yoryi Nuez: (L, 5-3) 1.1 IP, 5 R, 1 ER, H, (HR) 5 BB, K.
Nicco Blank: 1.1 IP, 6 R, 2 H, 4 BB, K.
Christian Montgomery: 4.1 IP, R, 3 H, (HR) 3 BB, 6 K.
Ruben Reyes: 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 3 K.

Five hits, 3 of them doubles, sprinkled among 5 different players, amounted to all of the offense.

GCL Mets (26-25) clip GCL Cardinals (29-21) 4-3.
Kevin Canelon: (W, 1-2) 6.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 K. (After 2 strong seasons in the DSL, Canelon is dominating in his first season stateside, a fact not demonstrated by his 1-2 W-L record. In 31.0 innings, his ERA is a mere 1.74, his WHIP only 0.77, but perhaps most impressive is that he has walked jist 1 batter.
Nabil Crismat: 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB.
Juan Marte: 0.1 IP, R, H, BB.
Alex Palsha: (S, 10) 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB, 2 K. (A major surprise, the 27th round selection, 22 year old Palsha, is mowing GCL

hitters down in his 1st pro season. As impressive as his 0.69 ERA and 10 of 11 saves, is his 11.77 K/9 IP and 2.08 BB/9 IP.)

Raphael Ramirez: 2-4, BB, 3 R, 3 SB.
Dash Winningham: 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI.
Milton Ramos: 2-4, 2B, BB, RBI.
Hengelbert Rojas: 3-5, 2B.

DSL Cardinals (21-46) edge DSL Mets1 (34-32) 6-5.

The Cardinals overcame a 5-2 deficit with a 4 run top of the 9th.

10 hits for Boyd, TJ Rivera, and Taijeron. Call them up...that's about as many hits as Mets generate in a week. The Reynolds Hit Machine cranks on.

After a horrific start to his season, Chris Montgomery has made a dramatic turn for the better. Lots of strikeouts.

Montgomery has the physical talent to pitch in the majors some day. He was a projected first round pick out of high school before his wing went down.

Then, his head got in the way.

I've talked to Christian in the off-season and the one thing he's working on is his confidence which had been lost after this long bad road...
