ERIE, PA – The Erie SeaWolves plated six runs in the fourth and Wilsen Palacios tossed seven scoreless innings to hand the Binghamton Mets a 7-0 loss on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. B-Mets starter Michael Fulmer was touched for six runs on six hits in his Double-A debut while the B-Mets suffered their most lopsided shutout defeat of the season. Binghamton’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot sits at two.
The SeaWolves jumped on Fulmer in the first. With Jason Krizan on second, Dean Green ripped Fulmer’s first pitch down the right-field line for an RBI double. Fulmer surrendered a single before retiring Corey Jones, limiting the damage to one run.
Steven Moya started Erie’s big fourth inning with a bang by clearing the left-field wall for his league-leading 32nd home run of the season. Fulmer followed by surrendering back-to-back singles before handing free passes to Marcus Lemon and Jamie Johnson. His walk to Johnson forced in a run and ended his night after 3-1/3 innings.
Adam Kolarek took over and struggled to put out the fire. Jason Krizan greeted the lefty by chopping into a run-producing fielder’s choice. Devon Travis walked to reload the bases and Dean Green dumped a two-run single down the right-field line. Moya capped the six-run inning by lacing an RBI single into left-center, his second run-producing hit of the inning.
The support was enough for Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. The right-hander scattered six hits while matching a career-high with nine strikeouts over seven shutout innings. Binghamton’s only threat to crack the scoreboard came in the third when Brian Burgamy lined a single to center. Brandon Nimmo attempted to score from second, but was gunned down by Jamie Johnson.
Palacios (8-4) earned his second win of the season against the B-Mets and extended his unbeaten streak to 10 games. Fulmer (0-1) struck out one and walked three in the loss. Chad Smith and Angel Nesbitt each tossed scoreless innings to close Erie’s pitching tab.
