St. Lucie win Pair over Fort Myers

The St. Lucie Mets won a pair of games of games over the Fort Myers Miracle on Tuesday in an atypical doubleheader.

The Mets and Miracle resumed their suspended game from June 26 and the Mets came from behind to win 8-6. The game picked up with the Mets trailing 3-2 with one out in the top of the fifth.

Because the scheduled game between the teams on June 27 was also postponed due to rain, the Mets and the Miracle had to play a seven inning game following the completion of the suspended game. The Mets won that game too, 6-5.

Both games were played at JetBlue Park, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox, in Fort Myers. Hammond Stadium, the home of the Miracle, is undergoing extensive renovations in preparation for 2015 Minnesota Twins spring training.

In the resumed game, the Mets fell behind 6-3 when Dalton Hicks singled in a run in the seventh. The Mets rallied with two outs in the eighth. Jeff McNeil drove in a run with a single to make it 6-4, and Eudy Pina followed with a two-run homer to tie the game 6-6.

It was the second homer of the game for Pina. The first homer was a solo shot on June 26 in the fifth inning. With his two-run homer in the eighth, Pina homered as a visiting player in the same game in two different ballparks.

Cole Frenzel broke the 6-6 tie with an RBI double off of Tyler Jones in the ninth. Maikis De La Cruz added an sac fly to make it 8-6.

Dario Alvarez induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Adam Brett Walker to finish off the Miracle. Alvarez earned the win.

Cory Mazzoni, who started the game and is now pitching for Triple-A Las Vegas, received a no decision. He went four innings and gave up three runs.

Jones suffered the blown save and the loss for the Miracle.

In the second game on Tuesday, Gavin Cecchini hit a grand slam and threw out the tying run at the plate on a stolen base attempt.

Bryan Haar’s error on Jared King’s ground ball in the first loaded the bases with one out. Cecchini then belted a 2-0 pitch from Ethan Mildren over the “Green Monster” in left field to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.

L.J. Mazzilli drove in McNeil with a two-out RBI single in the second to make it 5-0.

Seth Lugo was cruising along in his start of the season but ran into trouble in the third. Tyler Grimes crushed a three-run homer over the monster to make it 5-3, and Walker singled home a run later in the frame to make it 5-4.

Mazzilli extended the Mets lead to 6-4 with another two-out RBI single that scored McNeil in the fourth.

Travis Harrison cut the lead to 6-5 with an RBI single in the fourth. However, Cecchini stopped the bleeding when he threw out Grimes at home to end the inning. Grimes tried to take home from third base when Mets catcher Albert Cordero tried to catch Harrison stealing second base. Cecchini cut the bouncing throw off and relayed it back to Cordero in time to get Grimes.

Lugo pitched a perfect fifth to finish his start.

Paul Sewald, who gave up three runs against the Miracle on Friday at Tradition Field, retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh to close out the game. It was Sewald’s eighth save.

Lugo got the win and improved to 7-1. He gave up eight hits and five earned runs in five innings. He struck out five.

Mazzilli went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

McNeil extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a pair of hits. - team press release

I was not able to post under Herb's report, but it was quite a day in the minors. Mazzilli on 6 times in the DH, Eudy Pina a 2 Homer game, Gavin 2 fine games including Homer ans 4 ribbies in one of the two games, Luis Guillorme with yet another multi-hit game, Jeff McNeil back on a roll after adjusting to High A ball. I'm going to do an article Sunday on our great middle IF prospects, including the aforementioned IFs and others. Exciting. And Herb was right, this is the latest night of many outstanding minor league relief appearances. Awesome.

was there a technical problem about posting under Herb's report?
