August 4th 2015 -- Mets 5, Marlins 1

Tuesday night in Miami, the Met offense showed up again as they scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning to break the game open. They go on beat the Marlins 5-1.  Jonathon Niese was the beneficiary this time as he held the Marlins to just 1 run through 7.  Miami took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning when a single by Dee Gordon just evaded the glove of a diving Wilmer Flores at 2nd.  Brad Hand made the spot start for Marlins and left after 4 scoreless. The Mets got to his relief Adam Conley in the 6th. Flores doubled and then Ruben Tejada singled to right to tie the game at 1.  In the 8th Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud singled.  After Flores popped out trying to bunt and Tejada struck out,  pinch hitter Eric Campbell singled home Duda for a 2-1 lead.  Juan Lagares then tripled to right-center scoring two and it was 4-1.  Curtis Granderson then doubled down the left field line scoring Lagares to cap the scoring.  Jonathon Niese pitched 7 very strong innings allowing 4 hits the 1 run (earned) walking 1 and striking out 6 improving to 6-9 on the year.  Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless 8th.  Jeurys Familia pitched the bottom of the 9th in an non-save situation closing it out.  Duda and Tejada led the way with 2 hits apiece for the Mets who had 12 on the night. With the win the Mets have now won 5 straight. They stand at 57-50 on the year and are 19-32 on the road. Wednesday night it’s game 3 of the series. Matt Harvey (9-7 2.91) goes for 2nd straight series sweep for the Mets.  David Phelps (4-7 3.93)
