DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 8-21-15

5 of 7 wins, with some great performances, individually and team-wise.

STARS OF THE DAY: Chris Flexen - a magnificent 8 inning performance; 3 Taijeron homers

HONORABLE MENTION: Darrell Ceciliani, David Wright

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (69-58) 8 - Omaha 3

Binghamton (67-55) 9 - New Hampshire 5
St Lucie (62-62)  2 - Palm Beach 3

Savannah  (74-48) 5 - Kannapolis 0

Brooklyn (27-31) 1  - Aberdeen 5

Kingsport  (31-25)  3 - Bluefield 2

GCL Mets (26-27)  2 - Nationals
 1

Now Here's the Scoop:

Las Vegas went with lefty Gorski (8-8, 5.20). Gave up 2 homers in 5 innings, but won because Travis Taijeron hit 3 homers, shades of Yoenes Cespedes. Typical Travis year, with 46 extra base hits in 347 at bats.  .580 slug %.

Darrell Ceciliani (.353) joined the fun with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

Binghamton
hoped for clear skies after Thursday's rain out. Clear enough to pound out 16 hits, and a 9-5 win. Ynoa a decent 6 innings for the win.  Walters and Morris tossed a scoreless inning each, and Smoker allowed 2 in the 9th in a rare bad relief outing.

St Lucie Will miss David Wright, who went 3-4. .375 in 24 ABs.

McNeil, Sabol, and Rosario had 2 hits each. Miller Diaz was ineffective again, 11 hits but unproductive, 3-2 loss resulted.

Savannah sent 1-0, 0.73 Chris Flexen out to try for consecutive Gnats win # 17. Flexen was magnifique: 8 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 10 Ks on 100 pitches.  WOW! Next Met ace? 2-0, 0.44.

Five runs from a well-balanced attack, including a Michael Katz "tape measure blast" and yes, a 5-0 win, and a SEVENTEENTH STRAIGHT WIN!

Brooklyn hoped to build upon a tremendous win last night. Nope.  Back to not hitting. Holes back in bats. Another loss.

Kingsport hoped to get Eric Manoah (0-3, 6.35) in the win column. Six innings of 2 run ball. Adrian Almeida threw 3 shutout innings with 5 Ks and got the win thanks to a go-ahead 9th inning triple by Dashing Winningham.

GCL Mets got great pitching from Adonis Uceta (7 IP, 1 R, 7K) and 2 scoreless innings from Jordan Humphreys to win a 2-1 squeaker, despite just 2 hits from GCL Mets hitters.

The two 6th inning runs resulted from two walks and a single, then a bases loaded HBP and a DP ground out.  Overpowered them.  Take them how you can get them.

GOAT - Cyclone bats (.216)

Nice work Tom. Thx

You're right, Mack. Flexen may be the net ace.

I still think Travis Taijeron made big strides this year, and can't be fully discounted, especially if he ever can cut down on the strikeouts

With a Cespedes signing, we keep our #1 pick. Like Fulmer, that pick could have great value, which offsets Cespedes contract cost. And Cespedes could later be traded.

Rivera and Jeter may have gotten more signing elsewhere. They wanted to stay because the team was a perennial contender. Let's make the Mets one, too.
