Reese Kaplan -- El Paso Star Signs with the Mets

Arguably the most popular player in the short history of the El Paso Chihuahuas franchise, power hitting utilityman Cody Decker has just signed a minor league contract with the Mets.  He's capable of playing both corners in the infield and the outfield as well as being an emergency catcher.

Cody Decker Stats

According to Jon Heyman it's a done deal.  I assume he's headed to join the 51s as their outfield is pretty thin right now until Michael Conforto gets banished back once again because they're afraid of hurting Curtis Granderson's ego.  Furthermore he doesn't have the benefit of almighty veteran status, nor would they have to sacrifice a year of control once he spends 55 days sweating in the desert.

A right hand power hitting first baseman... hmm...

I REALLY like these kind of signings for AAA. Experience, minor league success, home run power

I don't know how much 1B he will get with Dom Smith installed there. However, no one would shed a tear if Matt Reynolds who ended the game I saw in LF was benched in order to get some more pop in the lineup. Neither Desmond Jennings nor Travis Taijeron are going to make anyone forget Mike Trout anytime soon either.

Hopefully Cody Decker becomes Upper Decker

Not that either of them is ever going to be a ML regular, but this basically a swap of Kelly for his Team Israel teammate. Kelly was one of the top hitters in the PCL a year or two ago and switch hits. Decker may have more power, but little else stands out.
