Lartigue homer provides Threshers 2-0 win over Mets

CLEARWATER, Fla. (July 1, 2018) – The Clearwater Threshers shut out the St. Lucie Mets 2-0 on Sunday at Spectrum Field.

The Mets’ three-game winning streak was snapped and the Threshers avoided a three-game sweep.

Henri Lartigue hit a two-out, two-run home run against Mets starter Gary Cornish in the third inning for the only runs of the game.

The two teams combined for 25 strikeouts.

The Mets loaded the bases twice and came up empty. With the bags full in the fifth inning, Clearwater starter Ramon Rosso got Gene Cone to fly out to strand three runners.

The Mets loaded the bases with one out in the ninth. Kyle Dohy, who took the loss for Clearwater on Saturday night, came out of the bullpen and retired Anthony Dimino and Dale Burdick to end the game.

Cornish struck out a career-high eight batters over five innings. He allowed two runs on three hits while walking three.

Rosso blanked the Mets for six innings and struck out nine in his Clearwater debut.

Wuilmer Becerra went 2 for 4 with a double. Mike Paez clubbed his third double in two games.

The Mets pitching staff has held opponents to just 23 hits over the last six games. The Mets are 3-3 in those games.
