Marauders power past Mets 9-2

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 5, 2018) – The Bradenton Marauders pulled away from the St. Lucie Mets for a 9-2 win on Thursday at First Data Field.

Bradenton held a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning and scored six runs in the frame. Hunter Owen delivered the dagger with a two-out grand slam that opened up a 9-2 lead.

Marauders starter Oddy Nunez held the Mets to two runs over six innings. He started shaky but induced double plays in the second and third innings to get out of trouble.

Mets starter David Peterson surrendered eight hits and six runs over five innings. He walked four and struck out three.

Bradenton scored in the first inning on a RBI single from Owen. The Mets responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Mike Paez delivered a RBI single to tie the game. Later in the inning Nunez threw over to first base to check on Paez and Andres Gimenez took off from third base and stole home.

Gimenez went 3 for 4 and stole two bases. He now leads the FSL with 26 steals.

The Marauders took the lead for good with a two-run third inning. Arden Pabst hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-2. Then with two outs, Lucas Tancas mashed a RBI ground rule double to put the Marauders ahead 3-2.

The Marauders bashed out 14 hits. All but one of their starters reached on a hit. Owen led the way, going 3 for 5 with five RBI.

Gimenez was the only Met with a multi-hit game. Paez went 1 for 2 with two walks. He extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Adam Atkins and Thomas McIlraith pitched scoreless relief appearances.

Evan Piechota pitched the final three innings for Bradenton to collect his first save.

The Mets’ three-game winning streak was snapped.
