PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 14, 2018) – Mike Paez launched a clutch home run and the St. Lucie Mets stormed to a 7-2 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Saturday at First Data Field.

The Mets trailed 1-0 with two outs in the fifth inning. Anthony Dimino and Gene Cone both singled to start a rally. Paez came up and quickly fell behind 0-2 to Cardinals starter Jake Walsh. Paez fought back and crushed a three-run home run left field to put the Mets up 3-1.

That was enough offense for Mets starter Gabriel Llanes. The right-hander cruised through six strong innings, allowing just three singles and one run. He walked two and struck out five. Llanes earned his third win.

Thomas McIlraith pitched the next 1.2 innings. Seth Davis retired all four batters he faced to finish the game collect his first save of the season.

The Mets offense came to life after the Paez home run. Luis Carpio doubled in the seventh and was driven home by a J.J. Franco single. Franco later scored on a sac fly from Jeremy Vasquez to put the Mets up 5-1.

Raphael Gladu and Ali Sanchez hit back-to-back doubles in the eighth to make it 6-2. A sac fly by Franco brought home Sanchez for a 7-2 lead.

The Mets totaled 12 hits, including five doubles and the Paez homer.

Anthony Dimino reached base four times from the leadoff spot. He went 2 for 3 with a double and two walks.

Cone, Paez and Carpio had two-hit games.

Rumor Still

Rumors to the affect that the Red Sox are looking for a righty starter to gain insurance on the ERod recent injury, and a second baseman in the event that Dustin cannot come back.

If true...Beeks and Chavis might be nice.

Pomeranz is a bit up and down. Near 4.00 career ERA. Had a great 2017 but can he do it again? Good question.

We'll see. Stay tuned to the same Bat Station!
